Festive Earrings, or Magic Effect

The previous working week was quite intensive and I did feel tired by its end. So after my usual Saturday chores were done, I thought I deserved a piece of a holiday that is easy to arrange in this time of year. As soon as I visit any department with Christmas ornaments, I always feel some childish joy while looking at all their shine, glitter, luster and colourful brightness. Let it be just an illusion but it always affects my mood magically. So in the evening after that shopping I spent some time to make these nice sparkling earrings. I thought if I ever wouldn't wear them, I would be able to use the pair to decorate my Christmas tree :-)

Святкові сережки, або Магічний ефект


Мій попередній робочий тиждень був доволі напружений тож, закінчивши звичайні суботні домашні справи, я подумала що заслуговую на невеличке свято, яке легко влаштувати о цій порі року. Адже щойно я зазираю до якогось відділу з різдвяними прикрасами, завжди відчуваю якесь дитяче захоплення розглядаючи весь їхній блиск, мерехтіння, полиск та барвисту строкатість. І нехай це лише ілюзія, але вона завжди справляє на мене магічний ефект. Тож ввечері після того шопінгу я витратила трохи часу на виготовлення цих гарненьких сяючих сережок. Я подумала, якщо я їх і не вдягатиму, то завжди зможу прикрасити цією парою ялинку :-)

To make the earrings I used this tutorial from +B4Pbakup. Despite my adherence to the holiday I don't remember I've ever made anything specially for it just because of the right mood as I prefer being more practical with my beading. This time I didn't think what this pair meant to be with. Besides, I had all the materials at hand and I like so much the moments when I don't need to buy any extra beads.
But the materials are slightly different. I used twins and 14 mm red pearl. I thought if it were too heavy, I would make a pendant instead but it isn't, it's OK. And thus had to add more white (silver-lined here) 15/0 seed beads. I also decided to make all the components separately and then assembly them with pins.



Щоб зробити сережки, скористалася цим майстер класом від +B4Pbakup. Незважаючи на мою прихильність до свята я не пам'ятаю, щоб колись щось робила лише заради особливого настрою оскільки намагаюся бути більш практичною з моїм нанизуванням. Цього разу я і не думала, до чого сережки призначені. До того ж у мене під рукою були всі необхідні матеріали, а я ж так люблю коли додатково не треба нічого купувати.
Але матеріали трохи відрізняються. Використала твіни і червону скляну перлину 14 мм. Подумала, якщо буде надто важка, зроблю кулон, але все гаразд - не важка. Через це довелося нанизати додаткові білі (тут: зі срібною серединою) бісерини 15/0. Я також вирішила всі компоненти зробити окремо, а потім з'єднати їх на піни.

Tulips Brooch, or Out of Season

The other days I was passing by the flower's market. The view of the bright bunches among the grey surrounding of the day was so great to see! Their blooming heads always make me smile and put in a good mood. And suddenly among the usual seasonal choice I saw the tulips in few vases... It was stunning indeed... I had never seen tulips in this time of year before... It was unexpected and amazing... (quite plain words to express my reaction!). I had a feeling as if by surprise became younger for a moment.

Tulips are very sensual flowers... maybe because they are the most awaited... but to see them here in autumn is the same as to see the falling snow in July. The shop assistant didn't let to take the photo so, right after coming back home,  to preserve that impression, I rushed to this tutorial on YouTube and then remembered about a piece of knits with tulip print. The only problem was to deside what to start making first either the brooch or the top. I wish I could do them both simultaneously:-)

Брошка "Тюльпани", або Не в сезон

Днями  проходила повз квіткового базару. Так чудово побачити яскраві букети посеред сірого оточення дня! Вигляд їхніх квітучих голівок завжди викликає у мене посмішку і піднімає настрій. І раптом серед звичних сезонних квітів у вазах я побачила тюльпани... це було справді приголомшливо... Я ніколи раніше не бачила тюльпани о цій порі року... так несподівано і дивовижно... (доволі бліді слова для вираження моєї реакції!). У мене було таке відчуття наче я зненацька на якусь мить помолодшала.
Тюльпани дуже чуттєві квіти... можливо тому що найбільш очікувані... але побачити їх тут восени - це те саме, що потрапити у снігопад у липні. Продавчиня не дозволила зробити фото, тож, щоб зберегти враження, повернувшись додому, я одразу кинулася до цього майстер класу на YouTube, а потім ще згадала про відріз трикотажу з тюльпановим прінтом. Єдина проблема була вирішити з чого починати: чи плести брошку чи шити топ. Хотіла б я робити їх водночас:-)

All the elements are beaded with seed beads 15/0 so despite I made five tulips, the ready brooch is only 5.5 cm in the longest part. After sewing all the elements together I just stitched the brooch pin placing it not to be seen from the front.
I am happy with the result and glad I didn't postpone making the project because of the wrong season... Who knows what I'll want to do when tulips' right time comes...



Всі елементи сплетені бісером 15/0, тому, хоча я і зробила п'ять тюльпанів, брошка в готовому вигляді лише 5,5 см в найдовшій частині. Після зшивання всіх елементів, я просто прикріпила застібку для брошки розташувавши так, щоб її не було видно з лицевої сторони.
Я дуже задоволена результатом і задоволена, що не стала відкладати проект через те, що зараз не той сезон. Хто знає, що мені захочеться зробити, коли настане час тюльпанів...

Tricky Knitting I

The knitting of this jacket started on October 7. And if to judge by the progress by today, November 4, I must admit that either I chose a wrong model or must refuse from making whatever from this yarn.

I knit swatches every time to prevent my work from surprises but anyway it happens to remake the pieces few times. This time after making a sample I cast on 8  repeats of the pattern with knitting needles #3 instead of 6 repeats because was afraid the jacket was too small for me. But as I was watching a movie while knitting (it was " Brand New Testament" and I enjoyed it indeed, so distracted from work all the time), I finally broke the pattern and had to unpick the piece to start again. After casting on the second time and knitting for about 4 cm I decided it would be better to change the knitting needles because the jacket yet promised to be too big. So I unpicked the piece again and cast on with #2. After knitting about 10 cm I thought it would be better to cast on 7 repeats instead of 8 because the jacket still was going to be big. So I unpicked the piece and started again. After knitting few rows one thought bothered me. The problem is that it is a jacket and the model requires even numbers of the repeats so  I would have to break the pattern anyway either in the centre or on the sides of the front because there would be 3.5 repeats. The knitting stopped again. 

Мудроване плетіння I

Робота над цим жакетом розпочалася 7 жовтня і, якщо судити наскільки вона просунулася до 4 листопада, то можна бути упевненою в тому, що або я обрала неправильну модель або взагалі не варто щось плести з цієї пряжі.
Я завжди плету зразки, щоб убезпечити свою роботу від сюрпризів, але вони все одно трапляються. Цього разу після вимірювання зразку я набрала 8 рапортів візерунку на спиці №3 замість 6, тому що боялася, що жакет буде замалий на мене. Але оскільки в поки плела дивилася кіно ( це був "Надновий Заповіт" і фільм мені дуже сподобався, тому я весь час відволікалася від роботи), зрештою візерунок було порушено, довелося все розпустити і розпочати знову. Після другого набору петель і на 4 см плетіння я вирішила, що треба змінити спиці на №2, бо схоже було на те, що жакет вийде все ж таки завеликий. Розпустила і набрала петлі знову. На 10 см плетіння стало зовсім очевидно, що жакет все одно буде завеликий, тому треба зменшити кількість повторів до 7, тобто знову все з початку. Щойно декілька рядків було сплетено, мене занепокоїла думка про збереження симетрії виробу, тому що модель розрахована на парну кількість повторів. Тому я б порушила симетрію або по середині переду або з боків, тому що у мене вийшло б 3,5 повтори на половину. Робота знову зупинилася.

Today is November 4 and at night it suddenly occurs to me that not to break the symmetry and to get full repeats I have to knit both back and front parts as a single piece, thus the symmetry will be saved. So what you think I am going to do now at about 11 p.m. on Saturday night... no... not the best things people can do... I am going to unpick the piece again and cast on 14 repeats and it means 14 times x 21 stitches + 2 edge stitches + 2  stitches for symmetry...I even cannot count it without a calculator right now... Does it just seem to me that somebody is crazy here?
Fortunately, before I cast on again, my instinct of self-preservation turned on. I guess because the idea of counting and further knitting of about 300 stitches on the knitting needles #2 sounded quite insane. So I just changed the order of the repeats and started with the second half of it. Thus when, or if some day!, both back and front are ready on the sides they make up a complete pattern.



Сьогодні 4 листопада і вночі мене осяяла  думка, що запобігти порушенню симетрії можна набравши петлі одразу і на передню і задню частини. І що ти думаєш я збираюся робити зараз об 11 ночі  у суботу... ні, не найприємніші речі, якими можуть займатися люди о цій порі... Я збираюся розпускати своє плетіння і набрати 14 рапортів візерунку і це означає 14 х 21 петлі + 2 петлі для симетрії + 2 кінцевих... я навіть порахувати це зараз без калькулятора не зможу... Мені лише здається, що тут хтось божевільний?
На щастя включився мій інстинкт самозбереження. Думаю тому, що думка про набір та плетіння біля 300 петель на спицях №2 звучала трохи навіжено. Тому я просто змінила порядок розташування візерунку, розпочавши з його другої половини. Тож коли, або якщо колись!, і спинка і перед будуть готові, на боках вони утворять цілий рапорт.

Peyote Brooch, or Autumn Walk

I've looked through my autumn posts not to repeat occasionally some bright thoughts about the season which I already shared  before (it can happen, of course, if our mood and atittiude to different things don't change). There are few posts inspired by the season colours and I found two of them depicting how I feel in autumn. One post devoted to this pair of earrings and another to this floral coat. 

I already thought that I have nothing new to say but then imagined an ideal autumn walk in the park or along quiet empty streets planted with old trees whose branches create colurful arches. And then I remembered how much I liked to gather those nice leaves. And it is exactly what I tried to do here, in my new project. I mean to gather autumn colours in a bunch as it is so easy to be an artist in this time of year!  

Брошка в техніці пейот, або Осіння прогулянка.

Переглядала свої осінні дописи, щоб випадково не повторити якісь з моїх яскравих думок про цю пору року, якими я вже  ділилася раніше (це, звісно, може трапитися, якщо наш настрій і ставлення до різних речей не змінюється). Є декілька дописів натхненних кольорами осені і я знайшла два з них, які я восени почуваюся. Один з них присвячений цим сережкам, а інший - цьому квітчастому пальту.

І вже подумала, що нічого нового мені не сказати, але потім уявила собі ідеальну осінню прогулянку в парку або здовж тихих пустельних вулиць обсаджених старими деревами чиї гілки утворили мальовничі арки. І потім я згадала як мені подобалося збирати те гарне листя. І це якраз те, що я спробувала зробити  в цьому новому проекті. Маю на увазі - зібрати осінні кольори в жмуток, адже восени так легко бути художником!

The idea and the pattern of the leaves were taken here. But I changed the way of assembling the brooch and after making 2 -3 leaves it was easy to understand how to change the pattern, too, to make new kinds of leaves. 

For my project I used cut beads and seed beads of don't-know-how-many colours.

Ідея і схема листя були знайдені тут. Але я змінила спосіб з'єднання елементів і після того, як зробила 2-3 листа, стало зрозуміло як можна змінити і схему самого листа.

Для свого проекту використала бісер і рубку не знаю скількох кольорів.

To decorate the brooch I used only one big rondelle and few pieces of wire. It seemed to be more elegant than to add many small beads because the leaves are very motley themselves.

Для декорування брошки використала лише один великий рондель і декілька відрізків дроту. Так мені здалося елегантніше ніж додавати багато мілких намистин, тому що листя і так дуже строкате.
