V-neck Maxi Dress, or Spread the Wings:-)

 

It is not the first Butterflies Dress I introduce here. I used to make this nice one called Butterflies' Tamer. I surely was in playful mood then and on some forgotten reason butterflies were on my mind as I even beaded a couple of them and made  the necklace. But this time I didn't think about these insects at all. It just happened that, when not seeing the planned fabric for the jumpsuit, I asked the seller about it. She used the moment properly and suggested me the fabric on sale with other kind of butterflies print. I couldn't stop and purchased 2.80 m of it. The first question I asked myself after coming back home: "Why I bought it?" and the second "What to do with it?" Here the story turned to other way as I had to mention that this summer I at last visited small pretty town Chornomorsk on the Black Sea. Me and my friend were so excited about our one day excursion there that decided to spend few days at the place to walk around and bathe in the sea to our hearts' content. Of course, packing is a part of any trip and I was going to wear only loose dresses but it turned out I only had two but needed three... for every day of staying there:-)

Макси-сукня з вирізом мисом, або Розгорни крила:-) 

Це не перше вбрання в метелики, яке я тут виставляю. Колись я пошила цю гарну сукню названу "Приборкувачка метеликів". Напевно я тоді була в дуже грайливому настрої і, з якоїсь забутої причини, метелики не йшли мені з голови, бо я навіть сплела двійко бісером і зробила намисто. Проте цього разу я взагалі не думала про цих комах. Просто не побачивши запланованої тканини для пошиття комбінезону, я про неї запитала продавчиню. Вона правильно скористалася моментом і запропонувала мені з розпродажу інший варіант "метеликів". Я не спинилася і придбала 2.80 м. Перше, що я себе запитала приїхавши додому було: "Нашо я це купила?", а друге "Що з цим робити?". Тут історія повертає в інший бік оскільки маю згадати, що цього року мені нарешті вдалося відвідати маленьке затишне містечко Чорноморськ. Ми з подругою були в такому захваті від нашої одноденної подорожі до нього, що вирішили провести там декілька днів, щоб як слід прогулятися і  досхочу накупатися у морі. Звісно, пакування речей - це частина будь якої подорожі, а я збиралася одягати лише дуже просторі сукні, у мене таких знайшлося дві, а потрібні були - три... по одній на кожен день:-)

About those days  in FB's stream of our BurdaStyle Ukraine I saw the models from one of my lucky magazines and rushed to see it in full. Looking through Burda 6/2015 I saw the dress #117 (or #6663). From that magazine I used to make the dress #121 and had no certain intention to sew something else up to then. Thus the fabric I had never wanted to buy found the pattern I had never wanted to sew and they matched perfectly:-) 

Приблизно в ті дні у фейсбучній стрічці нашої BurdaStyle Ukraine я побачила моделі з одного з моїх щасливих журналів і кинулася подивитися його повністю. Переглядаючи Burda 6/2015 побачила сукню 117 (або #6663). З того числа я шила модель 121 і до того моменту не мала якихось певних намірів шити щось ще. Ось так тканина, яку я не хотіла купувати, знайшла модель, яку я не хотіла шити, і вони чудово підійшли одне одному:-)

The sewing of the dress is quick and simple but this my issue on absolutely happy reason is in German, so I followed my own instruction:-) The most time consuming is the processing of the central seams. They are the same on the front and back as the draft is the same as well. At first I stitched the shoulder seams. Then basted the central seam from the bottom of the front to the bottom of the back. The neckhole stayed basted and the pieces down from the neckhole's end (angle) were stitched and overcast.  And then the entire seam from the front bottom to the back bottom was pressed open. 

Пошиття сукні швидке і просте, але це моє число, з надзвичайно щасливої причини, німецькою тож у мене своя інструкція:-) Найбільше часу пішло на обробку центральних швів. Вони однакові по переду і по спинці оскільки креслення одне і теж також. Спочатку стачала плечові шви. Потім зметала центральний шов від низу переду до низу спинки. Виріз горловини залишається зметаним, частини сукні від кінця горловини (кута) до зрізу низу стачуємо і обметуємо. Потім розпрасовуємо весь шов від низу пілочки до низу спинки.

Next step is stitching the shoulder pleats. 

Наступний крок - зшиваємо плечові складки. 

Then the neckhole is processed. The edged are tucked in the fold and stitched. And only after that the basting thread was removed. In this way the neckhole looks quite neat. 

Потім обробка горловини. Краї загнула всередину і настрочила. І лише після цього видалила зметувальну нитку.  Так горловина виходить доволі охайна. 

The rest of the work is usual: the armholes are processed with double folding. The correct line of the hem should be marked from the ground like in this Daisy Dress. 

Решта роботи звичайна: краї пройм обробила подвійною підгинкою. Правильну лінію низу краще визначати від підлоги як в цій ромашковій сукні.

So as this week is devoted to the idea of butterflies, it would be very adequate to finish it with making a dress. And NB! To know few tricks about its sewing nobody should follow the example of the Chinese princess who hid the silkworm cocoons in her hair dress when got married and left her home country and in this way China lost its silk making secret. I mean any secret about sewing I know, I'll share with pleasure with anybody without any camouflage:-)


Сукня для приборкувачки метеликів:-)

Оскільки цей тиждень присвячено метеликам, то доречно буде закінчити його пошиттям сукні. І зверніть увагу! Щоб дізнатися пару прийомчиків щодо пошиття, нікому не доведеться наслідувати китайську принцесу, яка вийшла заміж, переїхала до іншої країни і заразом вивезла в своїй зачісці кокони шовкопряду, і таким чином Китай втратив секрет виготовлення шовку.  Маю на увазі, що всіма мені відомими секретами пошиття я із задоволенням поділюся з усім світом без усіляких там окозамилювань:-)

The pattern was chosen very quickly because knits is specific fabric which is always drapes well,  thin enough (I mean summer variant): and so gives some extra... fitting that is not always very desirable...:-) So my choice - pattern Simplicity 1653, you can see it here and I found it in Diana Modern 4-5/2014 (Ukrainian issue).
The problem with the model: it has paper pattern for double sizes 36/38, 40/42 etc. For me an ideal double size for knits clothes is 38-40 so here I had to make some change. As the Simplicity patterns are given with seam allowance, I cut size 38 but added extra 0.7 cm and then sewed with seam allowance 1.5. Having in mind the fabric is stretching, it fitted.

Модель було обрано дуже швидко, тому що джерсі доволі специфічний матеріал: він завжди добре драпірується, і досить тонкий (літній варіант, звісно): і це дає нам певне додаткове не дуже бажане облягання. Тому я зупинилася на моделі Simplicity 1653, ви можете побачити її тут, а я її знайшла в Diana Modern №4-5/2014 (Українське видання).
Невеличким питанням з цією моделлю був факт подвійних розмірів 36/38, 40/42 і т.ін. Для мене ідеальний подвійний розмір трикотажного одягу 38/40, тому довелося щось вигадувати. Оскільки викройки Simplicity ідуть вже з припусками на шви, я кроїла за 38 розміром, але додала ще по 0,7 см до припусків і потім вже шила з запасом на 1,5 см. Приймаючи до уваги, що сукня з трикотажу, цього виявилось досить.

I also lengthened the dress for 4 cm and omitted a zipper.
Besides, to process the edges of the neck hole I used the interfacing instead of bias stripes. I guess it looks neater.



Я також обробила зрізи горловини обшивками замість косих стрічок, думаю, так виглядає охайніше.
Крім того, додала 4 см довжини до сукні і відмовилась від "блискавки".

As always when it is necessary to make top stitches on the bias or stretching detail, don't forget to put the piece of tracing paper underneath.
This time we do it for sewing the pleats on the draping part.



Як завжди, коли прокладаємо оздоблювальний стібок по деталі кроєній навскіс, або такій, що тягнеться, підкладаємо під деталь шматочок кальки.
Цього разу ми це робимо, щоб застрочити складки на відлітній частині переду.

Thinking about further ironing and washing the dress,  I made top stitches along its straps edges.

Пам'ятаючи про подальше прасування і прання сукні,  краї пасків  я обробила оздоблювальним стібком.

And the strap of the draping part I made in different way than in the magazine. I hope the method is clear from the pictures but if you have any questions, just ask.

Пасок відлітної частини я обробила теж в інший спосіб. Сподіваюсь, по фото можна все зрозуміти, але якщо є питання, відповім.

I wish I had some butterflies in my stomach because of love but if they are flying around just because of well-done work, it is very pleasant as well. And what the flying of the butterflies means for you personally, fancy yourself:-))

І відтепер, хоча і не в животі від кохання, але, принаймні, завдяки гарно виконаній роботі, влітку навколо мене завжди пурхатимуть метелики.
А вже що для кожного особисто означає політ метелика, вигадуйте самі:-)

Butterflies' Tamer Necklace

Of course, these butterflies couldn't wait long to see the sunlight and follow their fate:-) And the idea of the pendant came very quickly. To realise it I learnt to make Peyote Open Shapes: it actually means  making different geometrical figures with the hole in the middle. As I wanted my butterflies to stay together forever, I chose the peyote square (tutorial is here) because it easier to arrange two elements on it keeping the certain balance. 

Намисто "Приборкувачка метеликів"

Звісно, що ці метелики не могли довго чекати на кращу долю та сонячне світло:-) І ідея кулону не забарилась. Для його виготовлення я навчилась плести мозаїчні відкриті форми, тобто геометричні фігури з отвором посередині. Оскільки хотілося б, щоб метелики залишалися разом довіку, то я обрала пейот/мозаїчний квадрат (МК тут): на ньому два елементи легше розташувати з певним балансом для рівноваги.

Well, I must confess the first square turned out to be much less nice than it was expected and rather reminded some slipping element from surrealistic picture (I guess just because none of the seed beads ever had heard about Geometry:-)). I have nothing against this genre of art but had no temptation to say I wanted right what I got:-) So the work was remade.




Маю визнати, що перший квадрат виявився потворнішим, ніж очікувалось і радше нагадував якійсь елемент, що сповз з сюрреалістичного полотна (думаю, це з єдиної причини, що жодна з бісерин не мала уявлення про геометрію:-)). Не маю нічого проти цього жанру мистецтва, але все ж таки встояла перед спокусою сказати, що те, що в мене вийшло, це якраз те, що я хотіла:-) Тому - все з початку.

Second attempt was more successful and finished in the way it should be with quite nice result. First time I used cylindrical seed beads (cuts) for making a project. In my local store they only had them in three colours and two of them matched well my idea.




Друга спроба була успішнішою і тому доведена до кінця з пристойним результатом. Вперше для нанизування я використала циліндричний бісер (рубку). В найближчий крамниці він лежав з дня відкриття і всього в трьох кольорах, два з яких мені чудово підійшли.

I think the pendant can be worn on both sides. It is a good completion for this dress.
I surely have more ideas how to use such open shapes and maybe some day will make all of them. But right now I believe I made a nice thing and my wings are almost spread:-)



Думаю, кулон варто носити на обидві сторони. Він буде гарним доповненням для цієї сукні..
Маю більше ідей, як використати такі відкриті фігури і, можливо, одного дня сплету їх всі. Але зараз, здається, я зробила гарну річ і мої крила майже розгорнуті:-)

Butterflies' Tamer:-)

Butterflies, being tender fragile ephemeral and careless creatures, are undoubtedly perfect symbols of fleeting life... But while watching at them I can't help thinking that some day they become caterpillars and gobble whatever they see (I once said that so it is just my own quote... I still think so:-)) On the other hand, their beauty and delicateness make them a good theme for making some piece of art or craft. That's why to improve their reputation I decided to bead a couple of them:-)


Приборкувачка метеликів:-)

Метелики,  як ніжні легкі недовговічні і безтурботні істоти, безсумнівно є досконалими символами швидкоплинності життя. Але, спостерігаючи за ними, я не можу не думати, що одного дня вони перетворяться на гусениць і пожиратимуть все, що бачитимуть (я вже якось так висловлювалась, тому просто цитую тут сама себе:-)) З іншого боку, тендітність та краса метеликів є гарною темою для витворів мистецтва або рукотворів. Тому, щоб покращити їм репутацію, я  просто вирішила сплести двійко з них з бісеру:-)

To make this popular element which can be used later as a piece of jewelry you can find the scheme among the dozens ones in the Internet. I chose this butterfly . But  instead of the supposed Peyote stitch, I made it with Brick Stitch (tutorial) starting from the inside edge of the wing. It turned out to be easier for me and at the same time I learnt new technique (I still have a lot to learn!).

 
Щоб зробити такий елемент, який пізніше можна використати для виготовлення біжутерії, в Інтернеті можна знайти десятки схем. Я обрала ось такого метелика . Але замість техніки пейот (мозаїка) зробила виріб цегляним стібком (MK) розпочавши роботу від внутрішнього краю крила. Для мене це виявилося набагато легше, до того ж я опанувала нову техніку (а мені ж ще вчитись і вчитись!).

To make the bodice of the butterfly I learnt one more technique - Tubular Even-Count Peyote (tutorial). It was pretty easy and quick. And І like the technique and such kind of the rope very much. However, the ready bodice looks better in the purple variant because of the seed beads' type - they are the same outside and inside ( the dark blue has silver inner side).

Щоб зробити тільце метелика, опанувала ще одну техніку - трубчасту парну мозаїку (МК). Як не дивно, але плелося досить просто і швидко. І мені сподобався такий вид шнура. Втім, краще виглядає варіант в бузковому кольорі через тип бісеру - він однаковий і зовні і всередині, а темно-синій має срібну середину.

And here they are: I guess they are quite beautiful... besides, I can be sure these two will never become caterpillars and make any harm to any garden:-)




Ось таки вони вийшли: здається, дуже гарні. До того ж можна бути впевненим, що ці двоє ніколи не перетворяться на якусь там гусінь та зашкодять садочку або городу:-)
