Ornate Decorative Border Jersey Dress

As I am a complex person, that is probably why I admire complex ornaments, including those on fabrics. For example, like the one on this jersey used to make a new dress. They are so whimsical and opulent; they can be explored endlessly and intertwined into imagined adventures in the same way as I did when I was a small girl and invented stories while examining and tracing the carpets' patterns with a finger. At those times, it was so typical to have carpets on the walls in every home. By the way, the idea of hanging a rug again crossed already my mind not once; then, for example, it would be much cosier to sleep near a cold wall. But, as the revival of this tradition hardly happens soon, I can enjoy the intricate pattern of this simple garment's fabric.

Трикотажна сукня з купону з пишним візерунком

Можливо, через те, що людина я складна, мене і захоплюють  складні візерунки, в тому числі і на тканинах. Як, наприклад, на трикотажі, з якого пошита ця сукня. Вони такі чудернацькі та вигадливі, їх можна безкінечно розглядати та виплітати по них пригоди, так само, як колись у дитинстві я вигадувала історії, роздивляючись і водячи пальцем по орнаменту килимів, які, так звично в ті часи, висіли на стінах у кожній домівці. До речі, у мене вже не раз промайнула думка, чи не поновити цю традицію: тоді, наприклад, було б затишніше спати біля холодної стінки. Ну, а поки до нової килимової реальності далеко, то насолоджуватимуся вибагливістю орнаменту цієї простої сукні.

When buying the fabric, I had no doubt that I would make an easy dress for a simple reason. What design is needed to emphasise or show the fabric pattern at its best if the material is a ready piece to decorate a wall? So the choice of model #105 from Burda 9/2025 was almost obvious. 

I lengthened the dress not to waste any centimetre of this border motif. If I hadn't needed to cut the sleeves, I would have made it even longer. I also widened the dress along the bottom by as much as the fabric allowed, by about 3-4 cm.

The attire was completed with a belt, but I had to cut it using the same part of the border which is on the waist. If you look at the arrangement of the details on the fabric, you can see there was not enough of that kind of part so I got my belt in patchwork style, compiled from pieces of that fragment.

Купуючи тканину, я одразу знала, що шитиму з неї просту сукню, та й які тут потрібні фасони, якщо тканину можна вішати на стіну в якості декору. Тож вибір моделі 105 з Burda 9/2025 був майже очевидним. 

Сукню я подовжила, щоб не втрачати жодного сантиметру рапорту цього купону: якби рукави не кроїти, я б її ще довшою зробила. Також по бокових швах розширила на скільки дозволяла ширина тканини, сантиметри на 3-4. 

Вбрання доповнила паском, але кроїти його треба було з того фрагменту узору, який розташований на талії. По розкладці викрійки на тканині видно, що такого фрагменту не вистачало, тож у мене пасок у стилі печворк, зібраний зі шматочків залишків того фрагменту.

 

One more this model's feature is its sleeve. To make this sleeve cap keep its shape, they use a special detail cut from stiff material. As a rule, this detail is cut separately and then sewn to the ready cap sleeve. In this model, they suggest sewing it to the sleeve and then processing it as a single detail with a sleeve. I liked this method; it is more reliable for the heavy fabric; in this way, the folds will stay in place/ We'll see how they will behave after washing.

The neckhole is processed with a facing; I also neglected a zipper.

Ця модель також вирізняється рукавом. Для того щоб така форма окату тримала форму, підшивають особливу, назву її підложкою, з жорсткої тканини. Зазвичай ця деталь виготовляється окремо і потім пришивається до окату рукава. В цій моделі вона з'єднується з рукавом, і потім рукав обробляється як єдина деталь. Мені такий спосіб зайшов, як то кажуть: для важкої тканини це кращий метод, складки триматимуться надійніше. Подивимося, як та підложка поведе себе після прання.

 Горловину обробила обшивкою: обійшлася без блискавки.

Green Jersey Dress

One more quick sewing, dress #104 Burda 1/2026. The model has a couple of attracive features: an unusual armhole line, which can be defined as half-raglan, and sleeve's hem design with slits, which seems to be inspired by the midievail princess' garments :-)

Ще одне швидке пошиття, сукня 104 з Burda 1/2026. Модель має двійко привабливих деталей: незвичну лінію пройми, яку можна визначити як напів-реглан, та низ рукавів, форма якого видається навіяною вбранням середньовічної принцеси :-)

When sewing the dress I changed nothing but widened it by about 3 cm along the bottom on side seams. 

The dress is quite hefty because of dense and heavy fabric.

Поки шила нічого не міняла, крім того що розширила сукню по низу на 3 см по бокових швах. 

Сукня доволі громізка через щільну і важку тканину.

Belted Sweater

My sewing of this opulent floral jersey sweater at last justifies the purchase of the mentioned below magazine's issue, as I, up to now, couldn't understand why I wasn't picky enough when buying it. The used fabric is an absolute opposite story: I saw it, bought, got, washed and sewed clothing. All these together took five days. The real tailor's dream: if I always could work in this way, I would have plenty of room in my studio where I could put... I even have no idea what... hmmm... maybe more new fabrics? :-) 

Светр з паском

Пошиття цього светру з трикотажу з пишним квітковим візерунком нарешті виправдовує придбання відповідного числа журналу, яке я купила з до того невідомої мені причини. Історія використаної тканини - зовсім протилежна. Я її побачила, купила, отримала, випрала, пошила светр. На все це разом пішло п'ять днів. Справжня кравецька мрія: як би ж я тільки могла завжди так працювати, у мене тоді було б повно місця в майстерні, куди я б могла напхати ... навіть не уявляю що... хммм... мабуть ще більше нових тканин? :-)

The sweater is sewn by pattern #115 from Burda 12/2021. It happened so quickly that I had no idea what special about the process I could share, only have a gentle reminding to reinforce the shoulder's seams. 

The garment was made purposely to pair with the honey jeans.

Светр пошитий за моделлю 115 з Burda 12/2021. Трапилося це так шіидко, що у мене і ідей поділитися щодо особливостей пошиття, яких і не маю, лише нагадую про зміцнення плечових швів. 

Вбрання створено спеціально в пару до медових джинсів.

Honey Jeans

I wonder when I share some normal jeans instead of black, brown, pink or, as I am doing now, yellow, which I prefer to define here as honey. The latter sounds really much more distinctive and it goes about their colour, of course :-) 

Медові джинси 

Дуже мені цікаво, коли я вже хизуватимуся нормальними джинсами, а не якимись чорними, рожевими, коричневими чи, як роблю це зараз, жовтими, які мені більше до вподоби називати медовими. Останнє звучить справді набагато виразніше і, звісно, мається на увазі їхній колір :-)

Although sewing is not that simple, I worked on these jeans with pleasure. I wasn't lazy to make all the details the way they had to be. The whole process followed the instructions.

I only narrowed the pattern at the waist as the sizes for pattern #122 from Burda 8/2026 start from 46 that is good enough for my hips but less good for my waist. 

Хоча пошиття простим не можна назвати, працювала я над джинсами із задоволенням. Не лінилася всі деталі обробити як слід. Все робила за інструкцією.

Я лише завузила модель по талії, оскільки розмірна сітка моделі 122 з Burda 8/2026 починається з розміру 46, що добре для моїх стегон, але не дуже годиться для талії. 

Lurex Ribbed Knit Pullover

A quick simple top made of ribbed jersey with tiny addition of lurex. It is one of a few new garments in my wardrobe united by autumn vibe thanks to their colour palette and sewing time. I wish I could call them October Collection but I am quite modest🤭 here as well as my collection is not enormous😉

Пуловер з ребристого трикотажу з люрексом 

Швидкий простий верх пошитий з трикотажу з невеличким додаванням люрексу. Це один з декількох нових предметів гардеробу об'єднаних темою осені через кольорову палітру та час пошиття. Хотілося б назвати ці вбрання "Жовтневою колекцією", але ж я людина скромна🤭 та і колекція теж нечисленна 😉

To sew the pullover I used paper pattern from #1B from Burda Easy 2/2022 just because I've got it and it's very comfortable but the decision to make it was taken as soon as pattern #115 from Burda 9/2019 caught my eye after buying the fabric. There was 1.20 m of jersey so I chose shorter variant. There are other options to look for the pattern,  in the photo it shows where else it can be found.

I widened the sleeves at the bottom. I thought the balance of the item would be better in thi way. Besides, if to have wider sleeves it would be possible to wear some blouse or top underneath.

 

Для пошиття пуловеру я скористалася паперовою викрійкою 1В з Burda Easy 2/2022 лише тому, що вона у мене є і це дуже зручно, але рішення щодо пошиття саме цієї моделі прийнято шойно мені на очі потрапила викійка 115 з Burda 9/2019 після того, як було куплено тканину. У мене було 1,20 м, тому я обрала коротший варіант. На фото зазначено де ще можна знайти цю викрійку.

Рукави я розширла вздовж низу, мені така пропорція здалася кращою. До того, маючи ширши рукави, стає можливим одягати під пуловеру якусь блузку чи інший топ.

The shoulder seams are reinforsed with interfacing strips. The facing is top stitched. 

The sleeve is sewn in an open armhole and then the sleeve and side seams are joined.

The links: checked trousers, a backetweave skirt, a pendant.

Плечові шви зміцнені смужками прокладки. Обшивку відстрочено. Рукави вшиті у відкриту пройму, потім одинм швом з'єднано шви рукавів та бокові.

Покликання: картаті штани, спідниця з вигадливого твіду, кулон.

Salt & Pepper Boucle Dolman Sleeve Coat

In October, I've already made three garments but haven't shared any here yet. At the same time, the border chiffon set I sewed in September and shared in October so is there any fair attitude toward the clothing and the craftswoman in this blog, and why is nobody focusing on deadlines? :-) That's why I wanted to boast about this coat, which my granddad would call lapserdak because of its awkward silhouette and loose fit, so much. By the way, my mom only agreed to take photos of me in this garment after I put on red boots and a red dress to pair with the coat. Otherwise, the photo session would fail :-)

Пальто з рукавами-кімоно "Сіль з перцем", або Лапсердак

В жовтні я пошила вже три речі і не розмістила тут поки що жодної, а комплект з купонного шифону пошила у вересні, а розмістила в жовтні. Де, питається, справедливість у цьому блозі у ставленні до речей та до майстрині і чому ніхто не думає про дедлайни? :-) Тож дуже мені хотілося похвалитися цим пальтом, яке мій дідусь вже точно назвав би лапсердаком через його незграбний силует та вільну посадку. До речі, моя мама, яка мене переважно і фотографує для блогу, теж змирилася з ним лише після того, як я, в комплект до пальта, начепила червоні чоботи та червону сукню: так я, нарешті, і отримала фотосесію :-)

First of all, I wanted to sew something of so-called salt & pepper fabric, so as soon as I came across this boucle in one of Facebook's selling fabric groups, I bought it at once. It is exactly what I imagined: warm, soft but dense, thin, and light despite its bulky look. The initial plan was to make a kind of cardigan to substitute for my old, well-worn, unfastened jacket. But then I leaned toward the idea of lining it, as the wrong side of the fabric feels felted. Then the turn to choose the design came. I was prone to make something without a collar or other extra details, with minimum seams. In the end, I sewed pattern #111 from Burda 10/2025, and the final look, to be honest, in spite of having something in common with a cardigan, doesn't make that idea prevail. 

Перш за все, мені хотілося пошити щось з так званої "сіль з перцем" тканини, тож щойно я натрапила на це букле в одній з фейсбучних груп, які ті тканини продають, одразу її придбала. Вона саме така, якою я собі уявляла: тепла, м'яка, але щільна, тонка і легка, хоча й виглядає як кожух в якому можна "козу" водити. Початковий план був пошити щось на заміну моєму старому, добре поношеному жакету без застібки . Але потім я пристала на ідею поставити його на підкладку, оскільки виворітна сторона на дотик відчувається як валяна. Потім настала черга обирати фасон. Я схилялася до чогось без коміру та інших додаткових деталей, також з мінімумом швів. Зрештою, пошила модель 111 з Burda 10/2025, і, будьмо чесними, кінцевий результат хоч і має дещо спільне з кардиганом, але думки про нього не навіює. 

Before joining front and back details, I reinforced the shoulder seam and front centre edges with the interfacing strips.

For the lining, I chose viscose with a shimmering effect, 80% viscose + 20% nylon, as this fabric on sale cost twice cheaper than ordinary viscose lining, 50% viscose + 50% p/e. I guess it looks stunning, actually:-)

До того, як з'єднувати деталі переду і спинки, зміцнила плечові шви і краї зрізів центру переду смужками прокладки. 

Для підкладки я обрала віскозу-шиммер, 80% віскози + 20% нейлону, яка на знижках коштувала вдвічі дешевше за звичайну віскозну підкладку 50% віскози + 50% п/е. Як на мене, виглядає цей вибір приголомшливо :-)

The loop of the main fabric looked ugly, so I found leather scraps; I have no idea where they are from, I don't remember me working with leather, and made loops from them. 

Besides, I had no button of the saucer size, so added two smaller ones. 

After wearing the coat, I deepened the wrap because the darts were too far compared with my breast centre and changed the buttons' position appropriately. 

Петля з основної тканини виглядала потворно, тож я знайшла обрізки шкіри; звідки вони у мене, не маю уявлення, не пам'ятаю, щоб я працювала зі шкірою, і зробила петлі з них. 

Крім того, у мене не було ґудзика розміром з блюдечко, тож пришила два менші.

Поносивши пальто, я збільшила захід, тому що кінці виточок на виробі не збігалися з центром моїх грудей, і, відповідно, перешила ґудзики.

The coat was sewed to go on an excursion, and on that day it was ideal outerwear.

Пальто було пошите для поїдки на екскурсію, і для того дня це був ідеальний верхній одяг.

Border Print Chiffon Shirt Dress

Undoubtedly, the top from the previous post was an overture to the shirt dress which was born first and gave the idea of the set thanks to the leftover after the sewing:-) In our country this kind of clothing, a long buttoned to the waist or the hips shirt dress and so it is implied a skirt or trousers to be worn underneath, is called a chasuble. I was curious enough to look up the term and learned that, probably, only here we use it as, in fact, the name originates from a specific church clothing and nowadays, if it goes about a modern women garment, it is a kind of a poncho. I don't mind hearing an opinion from those who are good at these topics. It's really very interesting. It has nothing in common with my project either :-)

Шазюбль з шифону з купоном 

Без сумніву, топ з попереднього допису був увертюрою до сукні-сорочки, яка побачила світ першою і зародила  ідею комплекту завдяки залишкам після її пошиття :-) У нас такого типу сукні, з застібкою до талії чи до середини стегна, які передбачають що під низ одягатимуться чи то спідниці чи то штани, називають шазюблями. Допитливості моєї вистачило, щоб поцікавитися, звідки такий термін взявся, і, схоже на те, що так його називають лише в нашій частині світу, бо в перекладних термінах, для сучасного жіночого удягу, це максимум щось на кшталт пончо, бо має походження від специфічного церковного облачення. Це дуже цікаво, але до мого вбрання стосунку не має :-)

To sew this garment I used pattern #111 from Burda 2/2025. I changed nothing, followed the instructions. The only thing is worth mentioning, as I decided to make a top of the leftover from sewing the dress, I had to cut the stripes for loops and collars' details from fabric scraps. As for me, it is not a problem at all and didn't influence the outcome.

Для пошиття шазюблю я використала викрійку 111 з Burda 2/2025. Нічого не міняла, все за інструкцією. Єдине, оскільки я вирішила пошити з залишку тканини топ, кроїти рулики для петель та деталі комірів довелося з, фактично, обрізків, але, як на мене, це не проблема взагалі і жодним чином не вплинуло на результат.
