About Me

My photo
My blog's main subjects are sewing, the thing in which I am experienced the most, and beadwork, which is, in fact, pushed me into blogging. I am also engaged in knitting and crocheting. All together they are the set of skills which I use to make my wardrobe my whole life. These are not my only interests, I also like the English language (that's one of the reasons that my blog is bilingual), try to travel around my country and abroad (when can afford it), am interested in art (to the degree of a dilettante but nevertheless) and adore the people who can create anything beautiful or useful whatever it is :-) So welcome to a needlecrafter diary!

Delicate Drop Pendant

For almost a week I've been working on this delicate pendant by Melissa Grakowsky Shippe pattern from B&B October 2019. It is made in CRAW technique. It is delicate indeed by its size and it's refined because made mostly with 15.0 seed beads of two colours.  Instead  of 11.0 I used 10.0 Czech seed beads of two colours too.

The colour style of the pendant is quite neutral so it would be easy to match different kinds of clothes.

Iris Necklace and Earrings Set

Today the third day of summer. I made a new set of jewellery. I don't remember when its beading started as probably none of us noticed there was spring this year and I began my project on some day in spring, maybe in March or April. We are mostly focusing on the main things now, really main and important. Our life saving and our victory. To have joyful moments are as meaningful to survive. My set seems to be full of delight and brightness as well as plenty of flowers around now. For example, irises. A lot of them fill the hot southern air with their saturated astringent scent and triumphant beauty now. It cannot but inspire, can it? :-)

The materials were prepared long ago the used pattern for the pendant and the earrings by Helena Tang-Lim from B&B August 2019. The pendant has more interesting rope in the magazine but I didn't have enough  seed beads for it as to make the earrings was more important for me.

Ruby Garnet Necklace II

The second, a long one, Ruby Garnet Necklace, to pair the first short one when it is needed. I wanted to have a choice to wear them separately on occasion so made them in this way. The necklace was made using the materials from those two mentioned before bags of beads as well.

The work was not hard but time-consuming. Among the beads there were three big fire-polished beads: two of them I put aside for the earrings and the third meant to be used for the necklace. But this latter one had the defect, a very essential deep cut along the bead. Not to throw it away, as I liked it, around it I beaded a belt of three rows: 1 RAW, 1 peyote with 10.0 and 1 peyote with 15/0 seed beads. As it is supposed to be the centre of the rope, I put it on the thread at once.

Then the thread was strung to opposite sides, starting from this central one.

CRAW Sticks Bracelet, or Eat Them and Die :-)

In our language reality there is poem for adults, who like to feel sorry for themselves on any reason but especially on their loneliness. The poem is not a masterpiece at all but is quite sarcastic and, in fact, is a kind of mockery to tease the complainer. It also can be performed as a song, too. Without saving its poetic form it sounds in about the following way:
Nobody loves me,
Nobody cuddles me,
I'll go to the garden
And eat some worms.
They are so nice and colourful,
I'll eat them and die.
Why I remember it? Because when I made many colourful sticks, they reminded me many worms (the photo is below) which can be colourful only in that poem :-)
The pattern of the bracelet is by Jill Wiseman from Beadwork magazine June/July 2013. I also think it is a good stash booster, at least for me, because I used the remnants of 8/0 and 3x cut beads instead of Jill's bicones and pearls. The bracelet won my adherence because of the effect achieved with simple materials and technique.

I also think the braclet can be beaded just by the photo of the ready item if one has enough skills in the CRAW technique.

Lattice Earrings

One more earrings to make a set with one of the previous projects... I guess it is the right time to start making the dresses all this jewelry meant to match :-)
The earrings are different in style but made with the same materials as my Lettuce Bracelet, and this time the piece does remind a lattice :-)

The pattern by Marcia Decoster from Beadwork magazine April/May 2016. I already made few things with this technique so it was not very hard work but required attention.
I followed the charts with only difference - for the embellishment used rondelles 2x3 mm.

Such a bright and, at the same time, airy accessory looks very cheerful and vivid like a nice spring or summer day itself :-)

Lettuce Bracelet :-)

The garden theme is going on in this post, as the beautiful roses are not the only plants growing in front of my parents' house. There are also some fruit and vegetables, and they look pretty decorative, too:-)
This cute bracelet from Carol Wilcox Wells in Beadwork June/July 2011 attracted my attention at once. However, with its salad green colours and curvy net, it spelled not the image of Lattice but Lettuce, which enlivens our meals with long-awaited natural vitamins and fresh taste.
But, of course, your associations can be different :-)

The first part, the lattice itself, was easy and quick for me, but the second, the net chain, was confusing. Maybe because the TV was on while I was beading :-) When making the latter, I used mostly word descriptions rather than charts, although it is not typical for me, I cannot remember any other occasion when it was. Charts are all for me in any kind of needlework.
The pattern requires much attention indeed. Besides, I must admit that the tension is very important here.

As always, the sewing took a lot of time. To sew it neatly, I even pin the parts to have more or fewer equal rounds of the chain. The loop of the clasp is made by the designer's sample, but the bar is made as usual.

The bracelet is as beautiful as I expected it to be, so I am very glad with the result.

Dew on the Grapevine Magatama Set

Today I've finished one more magatama piece. I liked the tutorial for the magatama necklace from +Beads Direct and decided to make it at once. The diversity of the beads' colours confused me to some degree until I defined what outfit will be embellished with the necklace. Then the choice became simple and the wonderful mix of transparent pastel hues of lilac, pink and goldish seemed to be the best.

It is not very typical project for me with its delicacy and airiness. And I couldn't but modified it a little.
At first I beaded the whole seed beads chain and the base for the pendant with the fishing line. I thought it would be better to get the tigtness, besides, the chain is beaded with CRAW and so the thread would be seen, the fishing line - will not.
Then the pendant was beaded with the thread to have it soft well draping and bangling.

I also added a couple of elements to the necklace on the both sides of the pendant.
After the necklace was almost ready, to define how many elements I could add, I decided to make the matching earrings at first. The same idea as for the pendant was used. Making the base one must be attentive to make the pieces identical not to remake them.

The ready set looks very lovely... very romantic and gentle, the sparkles on the beads remind me glistening on the dew on the grapes under morning sunbeams...

Flower Bracelet, or Stylization

Today is the first day of my vacation. And it is almost evening of it... I don't feel I am free yet, few days are needed to start enjoying it and to want to have something else around but silence.
And all said above doesn't relate the new project... just reasoning aloud:-)
One of the first terms I learnt at school Art lessons was stylization (also possible it is the only term I remember:-)). Now I am old and prone to imply more figurative sense in it but when it goes about beading this term has no interpretation. For example, the flowers of this bracelet can be associated with any flower we can find around: from daisy to rose, thanking to the colour style and the shape of the petals and the author connected it with a hibiscus... probably because its stamen gives no chance to other flowers.

I saw many bracelets of the kind, I mean with the wire framework. I like them so wanted to try to make. This is my first attempt and hope it won't be the last. The pattern by Scarlett Lanson from Beadwork April/May 2009. It was preferred, of course, to match one of the next sewing projects. I beaded with 10.0 seed beads and when sewing all the parts together, also used only bigger seed beads. First flower's petals are not connected tight so I had to add two stamens to cover the holes and when joined the petals of the second flower, just sewed the beaded beads without 15.0. In this way the result was better and one stem was enough.

What I learnt from the project - I am skillful enough to predict what will be wrong with the project:-)
When I started the beading, I thought it would be better to use plastic beads because the pearls are too heavy and I don't know how stiff the wire must be to keep the flowers and not let the bracelet to move down. I didn't replace the beads but consoled with the right thought:-) I decided to use memory wire.  After trying the ready bracelet on, I fell in love with it but to make it look in the way I had imagined, I added a magnetic clasp. So my bracelet is not bangle but it stays in the wrist where I want.
NB! When sewing the flowers to the framework, extra attention is necessary otherwise you will remake it as I did.

Twins' Spiral Bangle

When making spontaneous projects, I am always glad to have some materials in reserve. It also helps when it is easy to substitute the necessary beads for the ones you have. Because then it is so easy to make something quick with a nice outcome at any moment when inspiration lights you :-)

The bracelet is a random pattern choice for white-and-black twins, which I have a lot of in my stash. I saw it on the cover of Beadwork October/November 2015, and the design belongs to Lisa Kan but it can be made without instructions.

I used 10.0 seed beads and twins. I also made fewer craw cubes for the start row.

Despite the photo, the bangle makes an impression of a not small piece; in fact, on the wrist, it looks pretty delicate, and I think it would be great to wear a few of them for a better effect.

Shaped CRAW Bracelet

It is worth saying that apart from the projects made by my own designs, this new piece is one of the most intricate patterns I've  made. This new bracelet is beaded in CRAW technique. I have already made a simple CRAW rope and a couple of CRAW bracelets: simple and not simple at all :-)  This time I tried to make a bracelet with 3D effect, it means it is shaped, consists of five double layered motifs. It was interesting indeed to work on it and I'd love to go on developing my skills in this technique.

The bracelet made by Gabi Gueck design from Beadwork February/March 2013.
The bracelet meant to be an accessory to this dress. But since my deep plunging into beading, it is the rare occasion when the dress was ready much earlier than the matching jewellery. At least I am almost on time to the summer dresses season:-)

The scheme in the magazine is clear so I just followed it. Made five motifs and connected them in a bracelet. But I didn't have 3 mm bicones so added 4 mm and they are bigger than it needed. For the clasp bars I made only one cube of CRAW to shorten the bracelet.
I also broke the pattern when stitching the pearls but only noticed that after finishing the bracelet. So left them as they are.

Spikes & Co Bracelet

I am still inspired by spikes and not by their associations but by the beads themselves. A couple of weeks ago, when posting the earrings, I already suggested that my subconsciousness is the only one that could explain the idea of the attraction but who cares, actually... It is one of those occasions again when the result is the only matter. Thus, to talk about the unknown makes no sense but obviously, the visible ideas can be the subject here. And this time this subject is a bracelet :-)

To make the bracelet, I used the tutorial from +Potomac Bead Company. I tried to match about the same materials. But the colour style is different, of course.

I followed the instructions almost entirely. But I'd like to admit that it better to make the bracelet not very loose. Spikes, especially if there are many of them, seem to be able to overturn the bracelet. So it is better to keep it right on the wrist.

My only change - the clasp. First, I made the bracelet itself. And then joined a new thread, beaded 6 seed beads around the end 6 mm glass beads. Then just added jump rings and a lobster claw clasp.
The most interesting part is how I am going to fasten it myself when putting it on... although after a few minutes of trying I managed to do at last... and with the left hand only...

Sparkling Infinity Bracelet, or YouTube's Voices

Nowadays You Tube is surely one of the best and most reliable teaching tool. And if I had no own experience on the point, I would never keep to it. The fact is, I learnt beading from its video tutorials. And as the process of learning  includes a permanent contact with such a tool, the question is how to choose the right tutorial from all those numberless suggestions. I solved this problem very quickly and easily. I just chose the voices I can listen as long as possible. (And judging from that if I ever make any videotutorial, it would be mute, no doubt:-))
One of such voices belongs to Gianna Zimmerman. Besides her beading talent I also enjoy her speaking manner  otherwise I would never in my life could make this bracelet by her design because while beading it I had to watch the video not sure how many times but not less than 15, I guess :-)
And what to do if you like some tutorial but don't like the voice of its author? Learn quicker:-)

I liked the bracelet from the first view. The designer calls it of Art-Deco style but as for me it reminds this Prague's building lines that is considered to be Rondocubism sample. No, I am not an expert in architecture, I only remembered the construction as soon as I saw the bracelet:-).

As always my materials are not the same what are requested so I had to adjust the tutorial to what I had, to 10.0 seed beads, 4 mm pearls and don't know what size of the cup chain. Working on the bracelet is not the project to dream away while the beading and my first try proves it absolutely.

So after finishing I decided to make another one in different colour style (coffee with milk). I got it better.

This bracelet matches well this pair of the rings I made some time before by +Potomac Bead Company tutorial. I also liked Gianna's matching earrings . So I want to try to make them, too, and hope I will be lucky enough :-)

It Seems to Wink CRAW Rope

I can't say I'm looking for simple ideas... they find me themselves:-)) At least when it goes about this necklace:-) I just was watching this tutorial and, as it recommends to start the training CRAW with big beads, then took the blue crystals I had and followed the instructions.

The used crystals are good enough for the training but their shape isn't suitable for beading the real wearable rope because the thread is too well-seen. However,  my wish to use the acquired skill on the spot became irreversible and so I decided to add the matching seed beads to alternate the crystals. I must say at once I tried to get two seed beads, three and four between the crystals.  The three seemed to be the best variant for me.

And in this way I beaded all the 100 crystals I had and got 10 cm rope. What to do next I thought not long as had made a sample of the seed beads only as well. And that was the design decision - to make a combined necklace from crystal and seed beads parts of CRAW rope.

To assemble the necklace I used jewelry wire and then sewed all the parts to make them keep the shape of the necklace, added the clasp and took pictures:-)
