Long Trapezium Dress, or Resort Mood

 

This post writing reminded me puzzle solving. I seemed to have all the necessary things to do that including the idea, photos, the subject to tell, a new favourite resort dress and even prepared collages to represent the place where I lived during  Albanian vacation. But I couldn't stick all those pieces together in a harmonic story until today's morning when I wore this dress and went shopping. On my way home the puzzle was solved :-) I thought that all resort places, at least the Mediterranean ones I visited, look more or less alike. Of course, some of them are better developed, some are neater, some has distinctive features we remember and thus add them to the own range of associations but nevertheless they have more in common than differences. Our feelings in such places are about the same as well. This dress as if preserved them for me. In the morning, while wearing it, I felt just as though I was in one of those splendid destinations and I understood it buying bread, eggs and a bottle of white vine in my usual grocery store:-) 

The earrings could be put on almost any but pink:-) I have Golden Mean pair on.

Написання цього допису нагадало мені складання пазлу. Здавалося, все необхідне, щоб це зробити, у мене було: ідея, тема, фото, що розповідати, нова улюблена курортна сукня і, навіть, колажі, готові показати місце де я жила на албанських канікулах. Але все це разом ніяк не ліпилося в гармонійну історію, аж допоки сьогодні вранці я не одягнула цю сукню і не пішла до крамниці. І коли поверталася додому, пазл таки склався:-) Я подумала, що всі курортні містечка, принаймні ті Середземноморські які я відвідала, виглядають більш менш схожими. Звісно, деякі з них краще розвинуті, деякі охайніші, деякі мають якісь особливі риси, які ми запам'ятовуємо і так додаємо до власного ряду асоціацій, але, попри те, спільного у них більше ніж відмінностей. І відчуття  наші так само схожі в таких місцях. Ця сукня як наче законсервувала їх для мене. Поки була в неї одягнена, я почувалася наче в одному з тих чудових містечок і зрозуміла це, купуючи яйця, хліб і пляшку білого вина в моїй звичайній крамниці:-) 

Cережки можна надягнути майже будь які, крім рожевих:-) На мені пара "Золота середина".

Sometimes it happens to be lucky enough to have a piece of fabric so big that when you think about the pattern to sew, you mostly focus on the patterns you would never make :-) To create something, I had 2.90 m x 144 cm of viscose, reminds very thin rep fabric so it is dense but not stiff and drapes well. As I had so long piece, I thought the ideal would be bias cut but simple shape as the print consists of large motifs. Thus I chose PDF pattern Burda # 6628A. 

Іноді  так щастить, що до рук потрапляє настільки великий відріз тканини, що коли обмірковуєш модель для пошиття, зосереджуєшся на тих, які ніколи б не пошила:-) Щоб щось створити, у мене було 2,90 х 144 см віскози, тканина нагадує тонкий репс тож вона щільна, але не жорстка і добре драпірується. Оскільки відріз довгий, подумала що ідеально було б покроїти щось навскіс, але простої форми - адже візерунок складається з великих мотивів. Так і обрала PDF викрійку Burda 6628А. 

The dress cut without centre seams. I also widened the model to the bottom along the centre and side lines for about 6-8 cm. Here I must say the dress was too long for me, I had to  shorten it for about 6 cm and then hemmed. So the width along the bottom could be more. However, I don't recommend to widen the pattern right from underarms and on the part of back slit not to break the silhouette.

Сукню покроєно без центральних швів, також я розширила модель по центральному і бокових лініях до низу на 6-8 см. Тут маю сказати, що сукня була задовга на мене, я її вкоротила десь на 6 см і потім підшила, тож розширення могло бути і більше. Проте, не рекомендую розширювати від самих пахв та на ділянці розрізу спинки, щоб не зруйнувати силует. 

Big motifs made me think about their "framing":-) So I found a piece of yellow cotton, any other colour would be as good but pink again :-) and cut the facings about 5 cm width to have them 3 cm when they are ready.  

Великі мотиви примусили мене подумати про їхнє "обрамлення":-)Тож знайшла шматочок жовтої бавовни, знову ж таки, будь який колір підійшов крім рожевого:-) і вирізала з нього обшивки завширшки десь 5 см, щоб в готовому вигляді були 3см.

Then they were reinforced and stitched to the wrong side of the dress. The slit on the back is about 0.4 cm wide. Then turn to the right side and baste off (I don't know if this term correct, I mean firming the edge with basting). 

After trying on the dress, the darts had to be deepened and lengthened. I guess because of   my widening the pattern.

Потім їх зміцнила і настрочила на зворотну сторону сукні. Щілина на спинці 0.4 см завширшки. Потім вивертаємо на лицеву сторону і виметуємо. 

Після примірки виточки довелося поглибити і подовжити, думаю через мої розширення моделі.

Then it is better to hem the facings and only then stitch them to the dress. At least I made so, it provided their neat curve edges.

Потім краще спочатку підшити обшивки, а вже потім пришити їх до сукні. Принаймні я зробила так, це забезпечило їм охайні округлі краї. 

So where the dress is, there the resort is:-) 

Тож, там де сукня - там і курорт:-)

V-neck Sleeveless Dress, or Albanian Jeep Safari

This year I was lucky to make a few new garments not only as the result of inspiration after (it will, probably, happen, too:-)) but as a preparation before my sea vacation. I also was absolutely happy with the choice of country for having a rest. I visited Albania, the country about which I only knew that I knew nothing, and it was an awesome feeling to discover the place and open myself to new emotions, and new experiences as well :-) For example, one of the days was devoted to a quite popular touristic fun there, a jeep safari along Albanian Riviera. I forgot how many kilometers we went but the trip was diverse and cordial, generally, as any other day of the kind. Serpentines and spirals of Albanian roads are for skilled drivers and for patient passengers who are able to see all along and around from the cars. The stops only encourage the curiosity and wish to go on to see what is next. Locals love their country a lot and share willingly their love with us. Breathtaking views to the valleys and coastline, marvelously survived ancient churches and fortresses, delicious food, and, of course, unbelievable sea, deep, clean, and incredibly cyan - all these are Albania and represent the country although subjectively but in the best way :-) 

 

Сукня без рукавів з вирізом мисом, або Албанське джип сафарі 

Цього року мені пощастило зробити декілька нових суконь не лише як результат натхнення після (таке, можливо, теж буде:-)), але як і підготовку до моїх морських канікул:-) Також мені надзвичайно пощастило з вибором країни для відпочинку. Я відвідала Албанію, країну, про яку знала лише те, що нічого не знала і це було незабутнє відчуття відкриття нового місця і розкриття себе для нових емоцій і, звісно ж, для нового досвіду:-) Один з днів, наприклад, був присвячений доволі популярній там туристський розвазі: джип-сафарі уздовж албанської рив'єри. Забула, скільки ми проїхали кілометрів, але подорож була різноманітною і сердечною, назагал, як і всі подібні дні. Серпантини та спіралі албанських доріг лише для досвідчених водіїв та для терплячих пасажирів, які можуть бачити все вздовж та навколо з автомобіля. Зупинки лише заохочують цікавість та бажання продовжувати, щоб дізнатися, що ж буде далі. Місцеві дуже люблять свою країну і охоче діляться своєю любов'ю з нами. Захоплюючи краєвиди  долин та узбережжя, дивом врятовані церкви та фортеці, смачна їжа і, звісно, неймовірне море: глибоке, чисте, запаморочливо блакитного кольору - все це і є Албанія і представляє країну, хоча і суб'єктивно, але якнайкраще:-) 

During the trip, I was wearing my new dress made with the PDF pattern Burda # 6497A. A very worthy pattern indeed. While sewing I asked myself why to look for any other models instead to sew ten dresses by this pattern in different colours and it would be an ideal summer wardrobe:-) Simple and quick to sew, having a great fitting dress but with a wide well draping comfortable skirt. I also wore earrings In Search of Red Flower. 

Під час мандрівки я була одягнута в нову сукню, зроблену за PDF викрійкою Burda 6497А. Модель справді варта уваги. Поки шила, питала себе, навіщо мучитися з пошуком якихось інших моделей, якщо можна нашити десять суконь різних кольорів за цією і це був би ідеальний літній гардероб:-) Проста і швидка в пошитті, з чудовим приляганням сукня, але з широкою комфортною спідницею, яка гарно драпірується. До сукні надягала сережки "У пошуках червоної квітки". 

In the way I cut the dress, it took 2.05 m x 144 cm of viscose. It is possible if the fabric has no print pattern direction. 

Так як я кроїла, у мене пішло 2, 05 м х 144 см віскози. Це можливо, якщо тканина не має виразного напрямку візерунку.

The facing isn't stitched in the centre before joining the front neckhole. 

Обшивка не зшивається по центру до з'єднання з передньою частиною. 

The bias tape is made of short parts. 

Коса бейка зшита з коротких відрізків. 

Before stitching the hem must be evened as in Daisy Dress. 

Перед підшиванням низ треба вирівняти як в Ромашковій сукні. 

It was a happy day and the dress was in tune with it:-) 

Це був щасливий день і сукня була з ним на одній хвилі:-)

Peplum Sequin Top

 

The previous winter I and my cousin dropped in a popular Lviv Chocolate Shop which has one of their cafes in our city, too. Their feature is to sell not only coffee and chocolate but also books and one of them I bought then. It was  Elizabeth Gilbert's City of Girls. The novel mostly drew my attention as it tells about a seamstress :-) I read it immediately and, while reading the descriptions of the characters' outfits, couldn't help wanting something shining and sparkling for myself. Thus the piece of sequin fabric appeared in my stash. As the only condition was to have this piece of glamour practical, I decided to use it for a blouse which is easier to pair with other things and find a reason to wear :-)

Позаминулої зими ми з сестрою зазирнули до Львівської майстерні шоколаду, що у нас на Адміральській. Вони продають не лише каву та шоколад, але і книжки. Одну з них я тоді купила. Це було "Місто дівчат" Елізабет Гілберт. Увагу мою роман привернув тим, що розповідає про кравчиню:-) Я його одразу ж прочитала, а поки читала описи вбрання героїнь, не могла позбутися бажання пошити і собі щось блискуче і сяюче. Ось так опинився в моїх запасах відріз трикотажу з пайєтками. Оскільки єдиною умовою було мати цей шматочок гламуру практичним, вирішила пошити з нього блузку, для якої простіше і речі до пари підібрати і нагоду одягнути знайти :-) 

The reason for sewing and wearing the top happened last Saturday when my friend suggested to go to the Disco 90s party?! My first question was how to dance when it is 35 degrees above zero outdoors but she replied we would survive because the party would be at the river in the evening. Then I thought if I refused, I would never make this blouse so agreed:-) The PDF pattern #6516 from Burda was chosen long ago, I already used it to make Linen Jumpsuit last summer. 

Spring Mambo bracelet and Spring Blossoming earrings  match the top well. Other options are possible:-)

Нагода пошити та одягнути блузку трапилася минулої суботи, коли моя подруга запропонувала піти на вечірку Диско 90ті?! Моє перше питання було як танцювати, коли на вулиці +35, але вона відповіла, що ми виживемо, тому що це буде вечір над рікою. Тоді я подумала, що якщо відмовлюся, ніколи цей топ не пошию, тож зголосилася:-) Викрійку PDF Burda 6516 було обрано давно, я нею вже користувалася для пошиття лляного комбінезону минулого літа. 

Браслет "Весняний Мамбо" і сережки "Весняне цвітіння" добре підійшли до топу, інший вибір можливий:-)

Somewhere very deep inside my intuition wasn't sleeping and gave me a sign not to use this fabric for sewing this pattern and, instead, make a simple top of two squares, but it was too hot to think about general process of the sewing so I decided to do what had been settled before. 

Десь дуже глибоко всередині моя інтуїція не спала і подавала мені знак не шити цю модель з цієї тканини, а натомість зробити простий топ з двох прямокутників, але було надто спекотно, щоб думати про загальну картину пошиття, тож вирішила робити те, що запланувала. 

What's the matter? At first I couldn't match the needle to stitch, neither stretch nor other thin needles could pierce the sequins, only #100 managed. As all of the blouse's edges are either sloping or curvy I even didn't want to think over the idea to tear off all the sequins in the seams. I used to make that but the fabric was different and it was not too troublesome just time consuming. This fabric is different that's why the straight lines would be the best as I could stitch the pieces along the sequins not harming them and to hem the top easily. But I had what I had... After joining all the parts together, I had to think about hemming the peplum and sleeves. I did what any of us does when we have runs in tights. I nailed all the edges to prevent the knits from unpicking. Thus I have all the edges neat without broken sequins. The blouse looks and feels light and comfortable. 

У чому ж проблема. Спочатку не могла добрати голку, щоб пробивала пайєтку. Ані стречові, ані інші тонкі голки не підходили, лише №100. Оскільки всі краї моделі або округлені або нахилені я навіть і думати не хотіла про те, щоб повідривати у швах пайєтки. Колись я таке робила, це не було складно, лише забрало багато часу, але тканина була інша. Тому я і кажу, що краще були б прямі лінії, уздовж яких я могла б строчити не пошкодивши пайєток. Але маємо, що маємо... Після того, як з'єднала всі деталі, постало питання підшивання рукавів і баски. Я зробила те, що всі ми робимо, коли у нас стрілка на колготах. Промазала лаком для нігтів всі краї, щоб трикотаж не розпустився. Так у мене вийшли охайні краї, пайєтки залишилися цілі, а блузка виглядає легкою і комфортною. 

What else the person needs to remember old good times despite, in fact, they were very hard and I have no wish to come back there. Buy the way, people, who organized the Disco Party, knew not much about that time so the music was awful and we left early but I have a blouse:-) 

Що ще потрібно, щоб згадати старі добрі часи, які насправді були дуже важкими, і у мене немає жодного бажання туди повертатися. До речі, ті, хто ту вечірку організовував, не так вже і добре знаються на тих часах, музика була жахлива і ми пішли рано, але у мене є блузка:-)
