About Me
- Oksana Starzhynska
- My blog's main subjects are sewing, the thing in which I am experienced the most, and beadwork, which is, in fact, pushed me into blogging. I am also engaged in knitting and crocheting. All together they are the set of skills which I use to make my wardrobe my whole life. These are not my only interests, I also like the English language (that's one of the reasons that my blog is bilingual), try to travel around my country and abroad (when can afford it), am interested in art (to the degree of a dilettante but nevertheless) and adore the people who can create anything beautiful or useful whatever it is :-) So welcome to a needlecrafter diary!

Instead of Spring Chants Earrings:-)
It looks like that beautiful youth April went to see his brother March and forgot his duty because we still have cold and rainy days not reminding spring at all :-) Our ancient ancestors had special songs - spring chants, or "vesnyanka" - to greet the season. By chance, I found a few green beads in my tiny stash so I thought maybe instead of the songs, which I know none, I could appeal to Spring with something nice and pleasant and she will make her son April go home and come back to his duties, won't she?:-))
I really wanted to brighten an overcast day... The other days I was looking for something and suddenly came across these so-called "rhinestones". These beads are very far from being Swarovski or any other crystals as well, they seem to be even not glass:-)) They were bought about 20 years ago and only because by that time I had seen nothing like that, I even had no idea they just must be sewed so they migrated from one box to the other and nobody could know their fate would change one day:-))
1. So I decided to experiment a little and create a new bead from those square ones (SqB). To make the same you need some seed beads (SB) of the same or contrast hue, fishing line and the needle #12.
2. Then string 5 SB and make a stitch in the cross. Repeat the same four times and finish with two to three stitches to reinforce the joining of the second cross. Now we have some kind of four-petal flower.
3. Pull the thread through the SB of one of the loops and do the same along the other SqB.
5. Now pull the thread through the 5 SB loops one more time and join every third SB in every of the along loops from both sides. Tie the ends of the threads, weave and cut.
6. Now we have two new beads which can be included in any design on own taste and wish.
