Dress with a Wrap Skirt

When talking about a hobby, it is hard to be sure which of us is a chief. Sometimes I am a leader but sometimes it rules and whose part is prevailed is the question to argue :-) For example, it is known, that PDF patterns contain not less then two variations of the models to make by the same drafts. In my case: one of them for winter and the other one for summer. When  started buying them, all of their models I chose for cold seasons but then it happened to be quarantine, we worked distantly so sewing of the warm dresses had no motivation at all. And now, using those patterns, I sew the clothes for summer, which, in fact, I didn't choose :-) 

Orange Mix Necklace and the Earrings were made purposely to complete this outfit.

Сукня зі спідницею на запах

Хобі - це така справа, що іноді важко бути певним, хто головний: іноді ти їм керуєш, а іноді воно тобою; чия ж частка більша -  питання суперечливе :-) Наприклад, відомо, що PDF викрійки містять не менше двох моделей, які можна пошити за однаковими кресленнями. В моєму випадку, одна з них була на зиму, а інша - на літо. Коли починала їх купувати, всі моделі я обирала для холодної пори року, але потім трапився карантин, ми працювали дистанційно і мотивація пошиття таких речей зовсім зникла. А тепер, використовуючи ті викрійки, я шию одяг для спекотної погоди, тобто, фактично, той, який я не обирала:-) 

Намисто "Помаранчева Суміш" і сережки були зроблені спеціально до цього вбрання.

This dress is made by Burda Style pattern #6565. I was so crazy about modification B that even bought the fabric of exactly the same colour as it has on its photo. But model A happened to be happier this time :-) And I have no shadow of regretting about that as I like what I've got much more then a lot!  I only refused from the collar because the necklace was planned to replace it from the moment of choosing the fabric. About this fabric my cousin said "It is very strange but it suits you" :-)

Цю  сукню пошито за моделлю Burda Style pattern #6565. Мені настільки захопила модифікація B, що я тоді ж одразу купила тканину саме того кольору, який був на її фото. Але моделі A цього разу пощастило більше :-) У мене немає і тіні жалю щодо цього, тому що те, що у мене вийшло, мені страшенно подобається! Я лише відмовилася від коміру, оскільки намисто мало його замінити з моменту вибору тканини. До речі, про цю тканину моя сестра висловилася так: "Це дуже дивно, але вона тобі до лиця" :-)

PDF patterns have instructions with drawings so it is  easy to follow them. 

PDF викрійки мають ілюстровані інструкції, тому шити по ним легко.

In this model I also like that the skirt and the bodice is made separately and then the ready parts are joined together. 

В цій моделі мені також подобається, що спідниця і верхня частина шиються окремо, а потім, вже готові частини з'єднуються разом.

The processing of the hem is supposed the facing of the back part. It looks very nice. 

Обробка подолу передбачає обшивку для низу спинки. Це виглядає дуже гарно.

Hem allowance is supposed to be 4 cm but when the skirt is flared, it is quite difficult to fold the edge twice as I prefer it closed. So I gave 3 cm. Besides, I always think about the dresses "behavior" after washing so all the edges were top stitched. The fabric is too thin and soft to process the hem with hands. 

Припуск на підгин низу передбачається 4 см, але якщо спідниця кльош, то викласти подвійну підгинку, а мені подобається закритий край, доволі складно. Тож додала 3 см. Крім того, я завжди думаю про "поведінку" суконь після прання, тому всі краї були відстрочені на машинці. Тканина занадто тонка і м'яка для обробки низу вручну.

Before the joining the bodice was made almost completely. I sewed the sleeves and basted the facing to avoid the stretching of the neckhole. 

До з'єднання верхня частина була майже закінчена. Я вшила рукави і примітала обшивку, щоб горловина не розтягувалася.

The seam allowance for the zipper was reinforced and the facing of the neckhole was processed after inserting the zipper. 

Припуск на вшивання блискавки було зміцнено. Обшивку закінчено після вшивання блискавки.

The dress is fabulous and the photos are wonderful as well:-)

Orange Mix Earrings

I wonder when I see the dress meant to be with these earrings and the necklace from one of the previous posts :-) Something tells me that the pile of details on my working table is not ready to be worn yet:-) 

Сережки  "Помаранчева суміш" 

Цікаво було б нарешті побачити сукню, до якої призначені ці сережки і намисто з одного з попередніх дописів :-) Щось говорить мені про те, що купа деталей на моєму робочому столі ще не готова бути одягнутою :-) 

The beads  meant to be the earrings were put aside from the mix at once. Then the elements were compiled and joined into two pieces. 

Намистини з суміші на сережки відклала одразу. Потім склала елементи, а потім з'єднала їх у виріб.

Olives Brooch

On the left there is a magnet brought from Greece several years ago. When started thinking over brooches embroidering, looking at this magnet I was pondering how nice it would be to make a brooch using this magnet as a sample. After getting certain experience in such embroidering I decided the ready brooch kits are good enough for me and as soon as Charivna Myt produced Olive Branch Brooch Kit, I could but yield the temptation :-) 

Брошка "Оливи" 

Ліворуч -  магніт, привезений з Греції декілька років тому. Коли починала думати про вишивання брошок, дивилася на цей магніт і міркувала собі, що добре було б використати його як зразок для такої брошки. Отримавши певний досвід такого вишивання, я вирішила, що готові набори достатньо гарні для мене і щойно Чарівна Мить випустила набір "Брошка "Оливи", я не могла не поступитися спокусі :-)

The Brooch is a little heavy but makes easy because most of the beads are big and looks really gorgeous... but maybe because of my Greece impressions:-) 

Брошка трохи важкувата, але виготовляється просто завдяки більшості великих намистин і виглядає пречудово... хоча може це через мої грецькі враження :-)

Orange Mix Bib Style Necklace

A new necklace made of Preciosa Beads mix and named after it. The necklace is meant to complete the outfit, a new dress which I haven't sewed up to now but already cut :-). The style of the necklace is defined by that future dress as well because, in fact, will substitute its collar. 

Намисто нагрудник "Помаранчева суміш"  

Нове намисто зроблене з суміші намистин Preciosa і назване на її честь. Намисто має доповнювати сукню, яку я ще не пошила, але вже покроїла :-) Стиль намиста визначений саме фасоном сукні, оскільки, фактично, замінить її комір.

I wanted to make the necklace of the kind for quite long and so was glad to experiment with these very beads as, firstly, orange is a very cheerful colour which always puts in a good mood. Secondly, the diversity of the beads promoted the idea of their a little chaotic arrangement and their big concentration without many repeats of the elements. Thus I got what I wanted.  

Вже давненько хотіла зробити намисто в такому стилі, тож задоволена, що могла експериментувати саме з цими намистинами. Оскільки, по-перше, оранжевий дуже життєрадісний колір, який завжди піднімає настрій. І, по-друге, розмаіття намистин сприяло ідеї їхнього трохи хаотичного розташування і великої концентрації без чисельних повторень елементів. Так вийшло те, що я хотіла.

Compiled threads turned to be quite heavy so I had to invite some firm rope not to be afraid to lose the necklace or its elements while wearing the piece. Using of some kind of cord would be good as a rope for this necklace but I wanted something more festive and light so ignored the style and hung the threads on two rows of jewelry rope decorated with seed beads (seed beads soup order). 

Мотузки зібрані з елементів виявилися доволі важкими тож треба було подбати про гожий міцний джгут, щоб не загубити намисто чи його елементи під час носіння. Використання якогось шнуру підійшло б для такого намиста, але мені хотілося чогось більш святкового та легкого, тож я проігнорувала стиль та повісила елементи на два ряди ювелірного тросику прикрашеного бісером (нанизаним за принципом "бісерного супу").

Palm Brooch

What else is a person able to dream about when it 35С degrees above zero in the shadow but about finding oneself on the beach? And what other symbol, but palm, is able to express this wish better? I am not quite sure if I really need a brooch on the beach and, to tell the truth, this palm reminds me a dragon-fly more, but it doesn't change the idea anyway :-) 

Брошка "Пальма" 

Про що ще здатна мріяти людина, коли в тіні +35, крім як опинитися на пляжі? І що, як не пальма, найкраще здатне виразити цю мрію? Не впевнена чи мені справді потрібна на пляжі брошка і, по правді сказати, ця пальма більше нагадує мені бабку, але це справи не міняє жодним чином :-)

The new cycle of brooches starts with this tropical plant. The kit contains new for me material cannetille. I wanted to try to work with it and now I did. The kit, which I got, had all materials but one bead #6 had no hole so I substituted it with what I had. 

Новий цикл брошок починається з цієї тропічної рослини. В наборі є новий для мене матеріал, канітель.  Вже давно хотіла спробувати працювати з ним, от і вдалося. Той набір, який дістався мені, вміщує всі матеріали, але одна намистина №6 не мала отвору, тож довелося замінити її тим, що у мене було.

Polka Dot Twist Knot Dress or Art of Postponing

Personally I am a great follower of the idea that nothing is worth being postponed in life. I mean if we have a chance to do something we want, it should be done because right moments are very rare or easy to miss, as who knows what moment is right, and regretting always guard. But sometimes it is not bad to forget about one's desires and maybe, in some magic way they happen on their own. It could be indeed. The hardest thing is to define when it is right to act and when to stay passive:-) For example, I fell in love with this dress from the first sight. It was obviously designed for me :-) But first time I saw it as a separate pattern and was going to buy it one day when having matching fabric. Time passed, the idea was delayed, I started sewing by PDF printed patterns but chose the different models. Suddenly one day looking through the review of Burda 3/2020 issue I saw the dress in it and, of course, bought the magazine because of the pattern. Having the issue I could help thinking about the right fabric again and at last thought this cotton stretch polka dot sateen will be as good as possible: besides being cotton and stretch, it is also not ornate and so the dress will be good for every day use as I am not prone to wear the nice dresses only once a year on special occasion. Over and above the fabric has been in my stash for years and so this time there was no need to postpone the sewing. 

Сукня в горошок з перекрученим вузлом, або Мистецтво зволікання

Особисто я - велика прихильниця ідеї, що не варто в житті щось відкладати. Мається на увазі, якщо є можливість зробити те, чого прагнеш, варто це зробити, тому що відповідні моменти трапляються дуже рідко, або проминають непоміченими, та і хто зна, який момент "саме той", а ось жалкування завжди на чатах. Але іноді забути про свої бажання не так вже і погано і, можливо, якимось магічним чином, вони здійсняться самі по собі. Таке і справді трапляється. Найважче - це визначити, коли треба негайно діяти, а коли - залишатися пасивним:-) Скажімо, в цю сукню я закохалася з першого погляду, вочевидь вона була створена спеціально для мене:-) Але вперше я її побачила як окрему викрійку і збиралася її колись купити щойно знайду якусь гожу тканину. Час минав, ідея втратила актуальність, я почала користуватися PDF викрійками, але обрала інші моделі. Раптом одного дня, переглядаючи огляд Burda 3/2020, я побачила в ньому цю сукню і, звісно, купила число. Як вже мала журнал, то думки про тканину самі роїлися в голові і, зрештою, я подумала, що цей еластичний сатин в горошок буде саме те: він і бавовна і тягнеться, до того ж він зовсім не ошатний, тож сукня підійде на кожен день, оскільки я не схильна одягати гарне вбрання лише раз на рік з особливої нагоди. До того ж ця тканина у мене в запасах лежала роками, отже цього разу зволікати з пошиттям не було сенсу. 

So, the dress #118 from Burda 3/2020. It also can be found as Burda Style Pattern 6442. I made it 9 cm shorter and also sewed the front neck hole edges with few stitches and a bar because the neck hole is suggested to start (or end) under the breast line. As for the evening gown it is probably excellent indeed but for every day outfit of a teacher it is a little too much :-) 

Отже сукня 118 з Burda 3/2020. Також її можна знайти як модель 6442 (принаймні на нашому, українському, сайті). Я її зробила на 9 см коротшою і зшила декількома стібками та перемичкою краї вирізу оскільки передбачається, що виріз закінчується (чи починається) десь під грудьми. Для вечірнього вбрання це, мабуть,  дуже добре, але як для щоденної сукні вчительки трохи занадто:-)

The dress is quite quick to make despite it spent about two weeks on  my table. The main idea - the fabric must be well-draping enough to form a knot. After the front is assembled the rest of sewing is simple and plain. 

Сукня шиється швидко хоча і пролежала у мене на столі не менше двох тижнів. Головна ідея - тканина має драпіруватися достатньо добре, щоб утворити вузол. Після того як передня частина зібрана, решта пошиття проста і зрозуміла.

Processing of the facing. The front facing was stitched for about 30 cm, I like  everything being fixed firmly and the dress doesn't live on its own life:-) But now I think about 15-20 cm would be better, maybe I will unpick the stitching.

Обробка обшивок. Обшивку пілочки настрочила десь на 30 см. Мені подобається, коли все тримається на своїх місцях, а не живе власним життям:-) Але зараз я думаю, що 15-20 см було б краще, можливо я цей шов перероблю.

The shoulder seam has some gathering so it must be basted from the back but stitched from the front with slight stretching. It will help to avoid tiny pleats in the seam as the gathering is quite essential as for the shoulder. The seam steaming is a must.

Плечовий шов має посадку, тому зметувати треба зі сторони спинки, а строчити, з легким розтягуванням, по передній частині. Це допоможе уникнути мілких складок у шві, тому що, як, на плечовий шов, зізбирування істотне. Відпарювання шву обов'язкове. 

As for the sleeves, I very rarely do this, but this time I gathered the caps on the machine. It worked better indeed. 

Щодо рукавів, я це роблю дуже рідко, але цього разу окати рукавів призбирала на машинці. Це краще спрацювало.

The last step - sewing the edges of the front neck hole. I did it because of mentioned above reasons. It is individual and the spots are defined during trying on. I made with few stitches (blue mark on the photo) and a short bar. Because of this  the dress got a small wrinkle from the armhole on the level of the bar but I am sure after few days of wearing the dress it will disappear.

Останній крок - зшивання країв вирізу. Я це зробила з вищезгаданих причин. Це індивідуально і визначається на примірці. Зшила в двох місцях декількома стібками (блакитна мітка на фото) і перемичкою. Через це від пройми на рівні перемички утворився невеликий залом, але я впевнена, що через декілька днів носіння сукні він зникне.
