About Me
- Oksana Starzhynska
- My blog's main subjects are sewing, the thing in which I am experienced the most, and beadwork, which is, in fact, pushed me into blogging. I am also engaged in knitting and crocheting. All together they are the set of skills which I use to make my wardrobe my whole life. These are not my only interests, I also like the English language (that's one of the reasons that my blog is bilingual), try to travel around my country and abroad (when can afford it), am interested in art (to the degree of a dilettante but nevertheless) and adore the people who can create anything beautiful or useful whatever it is :-) So welcome to a needlecrafter diary!

Shawl Collar Jacket, or From Hatred to Love :-)
Pattern #102 from Burda 11/2015 has two distinctive features. They are the wide flying lapels and an enormous quantity of the fabric to sew the outfit. And I hate them both. But after seeing the jacket in the magazine, it became clear at once that it is my sewing project #1 from it :-) There are four modifications of the pattern. I turned out to be very decisive in my wish to make variant C (a long jacket). In the instruction 2.5 m of the fabric is required for its sewing but I bought 2 and was absolutely sure it would be enough... and it was! My piece of advice for this model - choose the fabric to be able to cut the details in different directions, in this way you save a lot of material and have as less remnants as possible.
The jacket is made from dense and pretty thick knits and lined up with viscose. The sewing of the jacket is easy and quick. The unpredictable thing - the ready item is quite heavy because of the lapels ( hope it will help to keep them on the spot in windy weather!).
1. When a jacket or short coat has back darts, I usually make a seam to the hem edge. It will make the ironing easier and helps avoid any bulging in the darts' low top.
2. When cutting the interface, I added a small allowance to sew its outer edge in the relief to prevent scrolling while wearing the jacket.
3. The item has great fitting (hope it also will prevent its transforming into the sail:-)). In such a case I always make short cuts on the side seam allowances on the waist, the ironing is easier and fitting is much better in this way.
4. As always in the corners of the fronts don't forget to make the diagonal stitch to have a nice corner after turning the detail out.
5. I told very detailedly how I sew the lining to the coats and jackets here and here. So just a few pictures to remind main steps before sewing the lining to the hem allowance.
6. And finally, pairing. I wish I had better photos but the general tendency is well-seen anyway:-)
And this magic set of jewelry is a great accessory for such a jacket.
6. І нарешті, комбінування. Хотілося б мати кращі фото, але загальна тенденція прослідковується добре :-)
І цей чудовий набір прикрас - прекрасний аксесуар для такого жакету.
With a woollen pencil skirt. Pattern #114B from Burda 11/2006. I remember I liked the wool stretch from the previous model so much that went and bought some more for another skirt then.
With a little black dress... I have it indeed, don't remember when I wore it last time but it was pleasant I'm still able to put it on:-) Pattern #140 from Burda 3/1998, lengthened, made from the satin stretch, without a decorative front scarf.
With black trousers. I made them so long ago that even couldn't remember at once from what magazine they are. Pattern #112 from Burda 8/2006. Sewed from woollen gabardine so they still look well.

DeleteХоч така...
