About Me

My photo
My blog's main subjects are sewing, the thing in which I am experienced the most, and beadwork, which is, in fact, pushed me into blogging. I am also engaged in knitting and crocheting. All together they are the set of skills which I use to make my wardrobe my whole life. These are not my only interests, I also like the English language (that's one of the reasons that my blog is bilingual), try to travel around my country and abroad (when can afford it), am interested in art (to the degree of a dilettante but nevertheless) and adore the people who can create anything beautiful or useful whatever it is :-) So welcome to a needlecrafter diary!

Crocuses' Time

To talk about spring is as the same as to talk about life - you can profess a lot, express much and say nothing or you just can step outdoors, make a deep breath, look around and feel the Life. This feeling is exactly what spring means!
As for me, in spring we feel ourselves the part of nature most of all. That's why every new leaf or flower impress a lot although what is unusual in them? We see the same every year in the season but only in spring these signs of life rejoice us absolutely: everything is so new and fresh that fills with the hope for our own renewal. Even if it is just talks about renewal of thoughts, attitudes and plans.

For instance, I wasn't going to bead any flowers the nearest time. Having looked through hundreds of wonderful and not much samples, the real masterpieces and patterns for the beginners, I felt no that convincing click...  until came across these photos. I have enough mum's crocuses in the garden but, as we know " the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence":-)) To leave the jokes apart, these flowers impressed me with unbelievable gentleness and I couldn't but keep the feeling in some jewellry. At first it had to be a brooch but then I got a necklace. Generally, Ukrainian girl without a necklace is the same as English queen without a hat:-) So now I have such an embellishment.

Among several patterns I liked are Крокусы. (Crocus), both of them in Russian but the first is completely photographed and the latter is schemed so are easy to follow. Mostly the patterns are for the home decor. To make  jewellry, the latter one is better to adapt, just instead of the wire, use the fishing line. In fact, the crocus's petals are made with Flat Square Stitch and I also used Sleek Bracelet Tutorial to make increasing and decreasing rows.
At first I made a flower with six petals but it looked pretty rough so as my aim was not to make an exhibit for a Biology lesson, my flower became five-petalled. The ready petals I joined by the two bottom rows. Besides, I beaded the pistil and stamen as one detail with the same seed beads and then just sewed it to the flower, and  got buds from the three petals each. To one of them I added a long bead as if it is a fading flower.

Ready flowers were joined together in free order to get a brooch but then I decided it would look much better as a pendant.

That's why the next stage became beads producing. For me it was the new thing I learned while making the necklace. The variants of such beads are a lot but for my idea this Beaded Ball turned out to be the best (the process is described, charted and photographed). After the forth bead I learned the technique by heart (but it doesn't mean I didn't remake few of them two or three times again and again:-)) and even added the tiny seed beads to decor those balls and connect the colourstyle.

I had such components and elements  to make the necklace. The only thing to do is to join them.

And here it is. Pretty gentle, all I wanted. I have few elements left so will make a couple of the earrings these days.
