About Me

My photo
My blog's main subjects are sewing, the thing in which I am experienced the most, and beadwork, which is, in fact, pushed me into blogging. I am also engaged in knitting and crocheting. All together they are the set of skills which I use to make my wardrobe my whole life. These are not my only interests, I also like the English language (that's one of the reasons that my blog is bilingual), try to travel around my country and abroad (when can afford it), am interested in art (to the degree of a dilettante but nevertheless) and adore the people who can create anything beautiful or useful whatever it is :-) So welcome to a needlecrafter diary!

Salmon Against Rose:-)

The name for any of my knitted item is mostly  born  from the chain of the associations the colour of the yarn gives. I can't say if it is important or not to invent some original name but, no doubt, every time I have a wish to avoid the cliche (either I managed it or not - the other question:-)). Sometimes it easy because there is "the story" behind the project but sometimes the story has nothing in common with the colour and so the name has pretty abstract origin.
The story of this shawl began last year when I bought this yarn for some sweater. As it was purchased  through the Internet, the colour of the yarn turned out to be a little different from the expected so the knitting was postponed to some need or challenge. On some reason about a month ago I decided I wanted a shawl from this yarn and after knitting few swatches chose this pattern. When it was ready and I thought about the name, the most obvious associations seemed to be autumn forest, autumn rose and salmon. So try and guess what I believe to be the best choice. Of course, salmon:-)

The pattern is very beautiful and I liked it a lot at once... I am very thankful to the designer for the chance to make it.  I only wonder why I lost few evenings for swatching other variants... it is given on  +Ravelry in Russian, English and German.
I used Russian and have some remarks. In the bottom of page 2 it reads we should knit diagrams 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 for shorter variant and diagrams 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 for longer variant ( this one I actually made). But on page 4 it reads for the shorter variant after diagram 4 knit diagram 5 and for the longer - after diagram 4 knit 6 and 7. Pretty confusing because the pattern didn't coincide so the right info is on the page 2, follow it.
Another notion - it was worthy mentioning that the sign "-" means purl on the RS and knit on the WS and the same for the rest of signs. As a more or less experienced knitter, I understood where the shoe pinches but as for the not very experienced one, the absence of the notion will be confusing  or the signs had to be different for the RS and WS.

The hardest for me was alternating the pattern in every row. It gives great effect but it requires much attention.

I haven't count how many stitches I had in the last row but the ready shawl after blocking is 216 cm  x 68 cm knitted with needles ##3 and 3.5. It took 2.66 skeins of Alize Lana Gold Fine.

Alize Lana Gold Fine.
