About Me

My photo
My blog's main subjects are sewing, the thing in which I am experienced the most, and beadwork, which is, in fact, pushed me into blogging. I am also engaged in knitting and crocheting. All together they are the set of skills which I use to make my wardrobe my whole life. These are not my only interests, I also like the English language (that's one of the reasons that my blog is bilingual), try to travel around my country and abroad (when can afford it), am interested in art (to the degree of a dilettante but nevertheless) and adore the people who can create anything beautiful or useful whatever it is :-) So welcome to a needlecrafter diary!

Red Dress, or... One More Red Dress :-)

I am not able to answer the question how many outfits of the same colour a person needs or should afford. When I was young, I used any chance to read something about the right ways to choose the suiting colours, about their combinations and about pairing the clothes in general. I even read "Illustrated Encyclopedia of Fashion" because was curios how all that worked and works.
Here I've already written a couple of times about my ideas as for the colour's preferences. But anyway when it goes about buying some new fabric, I cannot invent anything more original than red purple of blue :-) At some period of time it bothered me from that point of view that yet I like diversity in colour style. Besides, I agree with my tailoring teacher who, commenting my intention to sew a red coat, said almost thirty years ago, "Oksana, to have a red coat is a perfect idea but if you have it as one more so start with some neutral colour". She meant that wearing red is enjoyable when it is temporal, and anybody is getting tired of the colour and the eye needs some rest. It is true... absolutely true... but when I am going to buy some new fabric, my first choice is red anyway :-)
Maybe to justify my attachment to the colour at some moment it occurred to me to search how many red hues are... I didn't find the exact number (who is more persistent, you can help me:-)) but I thought that their variety is entire indulgence in my choosing the same colour more or less regularly for sewing.

All about the necklace is here, the earrings - here.

It seems to me the chosen hue of red here is cardinal (although as they say it depends on how true your monitor is).
The dress #111 is from one of my last year favourite issues Burda 8/2017. I can't but say that since this issue I didn't miss any. I see a lot of things I would make and it happens not often.
The fabric is very interesting. It is double sided knits. One side is grey jersey and the other is also jersey but it is red and has suede surface. Incredibly pleasant to touch and to work with as well. I'd love to buy the same fabric of other colours.
The pattern has a lot of seams including many darts but thanking that suede texture they are not seen very much, the dress just has great fitting.

I only lengthened the sleeves. When sewing I followed the instruction but as I don't remember when I sewed such a collar, took some photos of the process.

At the next step I thought I hardly would prevent the inner seams allowances of the collar and the facing from rolling so instead of final stitching the collar on the machine, sewed those allowances by hands.

The dress required quite much handy work. The mentioned above collar, the back ends of the collar which were sewed to it, the slit's edges, sleeves' and skits' hems were processed by hands.

    1. Thank you so much! I knew from the first sight I would make it. Design is simple but with many constructive lines so the fitting could be not great. They did good job with this pattern :-)
