Flower of Chaos Earrings

If my previous project could be named mystic on the obvious reason of my perception of the bracelet's pattern, this one is even more mysterious... I'd rather call it of chaotic origin because these earrings were created in some puzzling way:-)
As it often happens with my jewelry, the bracelet wanted a pair of earrings not to feel alone. And I couldn't help making that, firstly because I like making earrings and secondly, because I had enough leftover materials to make a set... or two:-)

Якщо мій попередній проект можна було назвати загадковим з простої причини мого сприйняття моделі того браслету, то цей ще більш загадковий... я б навіть назвала його народженим з хаосу, тому що ця пара сережок була створена в якійсь незбагненний спосіб:-)
Як це часто трапляється з моїми прикрасами, браслет
зажадав собі до пари сережки, щоб не почуватися самотнім і я не могла їх не зробити по-перше, тому що мені подобається робити  сережки, а по-друге, тому що у мене залишилося достатньо матеріалів, щоб зробити набір...або два :-)

How it was. I thought as the bracelet was made in herringbone, the natural idea is to make the earrings in the same technique. I have enough experience to understand that using a simple scheme of the alike flower and changing the number of seed beads between the "bones", anybody can make a lot of different flowers on own taste. I've got such flower (the colour of the beads is not right, they are not lilac but almost dark purple in real).





Як це було. Я подумала, оскільки браслет зроблений в техніці "ндебеле", то природно і сережки зробити в такій самій техніці. У мене вже достатньо досвіду, щоб розуміти, що використовуючи схему подібної квітки та змінюючи кількість бісерин між "парами" ндебеле, можна наплести багато різних квіточок на власний смак. У мене вийшла така квітка (колір бісеру на фото не відповідає дійсності, в житті він не бузковий, а майже темно-фіолетовий).

Then I thought that flower had nothing in common with my bracelet except the red seed beads. So yet I came back to the same materials and made the different element which  immediately was decided to use for some necklace.




Потім я подумала, що ця квітка не має нічого спільного з браслетом крім червоного бісеру. Тож я все ж таки використала ті самі матеріали і зробила новий елемент, який одразу ж було вирішено залучити до виготовлення якогось намиста.

Then I suddenly remembered about few small, 8 mm, purple rivolis in my stash. They turned out to match perfectly the prepared materials and I bezeled them like in this project.



Потім я раптом згадала, що у мене десь є декілька маленьких, 8 мм, ріволі фіолетового кольору. Вони чудово підійшли до підготованих матеріалів і я їх оплела як в цьому проекті.

One of the rivolis I used as a middle for the herringbone flower... A new one, made in quite chaotic way. I started beading the petals from the loops of four seed beads. Then I beaded few more rows from the back of the petals to make it... fluffier. But the flowers actually don't have exact pattern because I didn't add the beads step in step. I also enlarged the petals adding the beads between the "bones". So the final flower is not perfectly shaped but it is what I like about it, no symmetry.


Один з ріволі я використала як серединку для квітки ндебеле... Вже нової, зробленої в доволі хаотичний спосіб. Почала плести пелюстки ндебеле з дужок в 4 бісерини. Потім сплела ще декілька рядів розпочавши зі зворотньої сторони пелюсток, щоб квітка була пишнішою. Але, насправді, квітки не мають певної схеми, тому що я не додавала бісерини однаково. Також для розширення пелюсток додавала бісерини між "парами" ндебеле. Тож остаточна квітка не має досконалої форми, але це мені в ній і подобається, жодної симетрії.

Of the all the work the most complex part was to compile all the elements... mostly I mean joining the flower to the rest. I am still not sure if I made it properly: I haven't tried on the earrings yet, as I had no choice but stick the flower to the earring bases and the glue is not dried yet. And because of the wrong free shape of the flower it was not easy to find the way to make the loop to add the dangles.
So if I have nice outcome, I'll only know tomorrow... or, to be exact, today in the morning:-)




Найскладнішим етапом в усій роботі виявилося з'єднання всіх елементів, переважно маються на увазі приєднання квітів до решти. Все ще не впевнена, що зробила це правильно: я ще сережки не міряла - оскільки у мене не було вибору крім як приклеїти квіти до основ сережок, а клей ще не висох. А через неправильну вільну форму квітки, було нелегко зробити петлю, щоб додати підвіски.
Тож чи матиму гарний результат, буде відомо лише завтра...чи точніше, сьогодні вранці:-)

Herringbone Bracelet, or Charming Waves

At first I wanted to name the waves of this bracelet mystic... only because I couldn't explain why the pattern drew my attention so much:-) Simple stitch, nothing ornate or intricate... But since I saw the bracelet here, I always wanted to make it and at last my current sewing project caused the transformation of the intention into the action:-)

While working on the bracelet, it became clear that the pattern, introduced by Potomac Bead Company, is really a sample of the technique which gives enough food for fantasy. After the first made stitches I changed the pattern and thought about few more variants for future. So these waves just charmed me and I am very glad at the outcome.

Браслет в техніці ндебеле, або Чарівні хвилі

Спочатку я збиралася назвати хвилі цього браслету містичними... лише тому, що не могла пояснити, чому цей зразок настільки міцно привернув мою увагу:-) Жодних пишних прикрас чи хитромудрого плетіння, все просто... Але я завжди хотіла його зробити щойно тут побачила і нарешті мій поточний кравецький проект змусив намір трансформуватися в дію :-)

Протягом роботи над браслетом стало зрозуміло, що модель представлена Potomac Bead Company - це лише зразок техніки, який може підгодувати уяву. Після перших зроблених стібків я змінила модель і вже подумала про ще декілька варіантів на майбутнє. Ось так ці хвилі мене зачарували і мені подобається результат :-)

I chose three main colours: red, dark metallic purple and lavender. At first I planned the using of more their hues. After making a couple of samples I refused from too variegated mix of colours and used only three mentioned colours of 8.0 seed beads, one colour of 10.0 and one colour of the rondelles. 

Обрала три головних кольори: червоний, темний фіолетовий металік і лавандовий. Спочатку планувала використати більше їхніх відтінків.  Але після двох зразків відмовилася від зайвої строкатості і використала лише три головних кольори бісеру 8.0, один колір 10.0 і один колір ронделів.

Then drew a sketch. During the work it occurred to me to make the bracelet wider and while making it wider, I thought it can be made as wide as one wants.

Потім намалювала ескіз. Протягом роботи вирішила зробити браслет ширшим, а поки робила його ширшим, вирішила, що можна його зробити таким широким, яким тільки забажаєш.

The work is finished with brick stitch with simultaneous decreasing of the rows. For fastening I added a magnetic clasp.

Роботу закінчено цегельним стібком з одночасним скороченням рядів. Застібку обрала магнітну.

One Unfastened Jacket for Two Grey Hues

Actually there were two more grey shades during my work on this project but they... how to say... they didn't leave any materialistic trace on this outfit. The first of them was surely our present weather... it did make dark grey outside these days!!
Next grey hue concerned my mood... I was upset because of my sewing machine sudden pinking while sewing the jacket. Fortunately, I could fix the problem. This machine has been serving to me faithfully almost 30 years... Except my family, I don't have any person around me whom I've known so long! I avoided the necessity to buy a new machine otherwise I would have to say good bye any summer travelling. So those several hours were grey for me indeed!!!
And at last, the used fabric. It is double-sided knits, one side of which is grey melange and the other is monochromatic grey.
The idea of making such a jacket was caused by a very banal reason. I have many dresses in my wardrobe but cannot wear them in cold seasons to work because it is quite chilly in the classroom so at this time of year I'm mostly dressed in thick knitted sweaters. As you understand, it is not the look to kill... if only my cat who surely prefers sometimes to sleep an hour or two on one of those sweaters. I just got weary of them so wanted to make something smarter and lighter to put it on any long-sleeved dress and stay warm. The choice was made in favour of the model #126 from Burda 1/2011 (the same model #108 from Burda 5/2021).

Один жакет без застібки на два відтінки сірого

Насправді було ще два відтінки сірого протягом роботи над цим проектом, але вони, якщо можна так сказати, не залишили жодного матеріального відбитка на готовому вбранні. Першим з них була наша теперішня погода... Оце вже що робило все навколо темно-сірим, так це була вона!!! Наступний відтінок сірого стосувався мого настрою... Я була засмучена раптовою поломкою моєї швейної машинки під час роботи над жакетом. На щастя я змогла полагодити свою стареньку... машина мені добре служить вже майже 30 років; я, крім своєї родини, і людей не маю поряд, яких би так довго знала. Тож ті декілька годин були справді сірими для мене, бо якби довелося купувати нову, то тоді - прощавай літня подорож хоч кудись! І, нарешті, тканина. Це двосторонній трикотаж, одна сторона якого - сірий меланж, а друга монохромного сірого кольору. Причина пошити такий жакет доволі банальна. У мене багато суконь в гардеробі, але я не вдягаю їх в холодну пору року, тому що на роботі прохолодно, тож в цей час на мені переважно товсті плетені светри та кофти... не знаю кого можна вразити таким виглядом, хіба що мого кота, який дуже полюбляє подрімати годинку-другу на такому светрі. Я просто від них втомилася тому хотіла зробити щось більш витончене і легке, щоб вдягати поверх сукні з довгим рукавом і не мерзнути. Вибір було зроблено на користь моделі 126 з Burda 1/2011 (така сама модель 108 з Burda 5/2021).

The jacket is very simple and probably one of the quickest thing to make. But, as it was mentioned above, the fabric is double-sided so I decided to sew it to wear on the both sides. It was pure curiosity because I actually don't like the hue of monochromatic side and am going to wear the jacket only on the melange.
And so instead of few hours I spend for sewing the apparel few days.
By the way, the hat was used to crochet long ago because of curiosity, too, I wanted to try how comfortable to crochet or knit with that yarn. It turned out not much indeed but I had a hat :-)(the pattern was taken here).

Цей жакет дуже проста і, мабуть, одна з найшвидших для пошиття річ. Але, як вже згадувалося, тканина двостороння тож я вирішила, що маю пошити його так, щоб носити на обидві сторони. Це була чиста цікавість, бо мені той монохромний відтінок сірого не подобається і  я збираюся носити вбрання лише на меланжеву сторону.

Але завдяки цьому плану замість декількох годин я витратила на пошиття декілька днів.
До речі, і шапку було колись давно сплетено з цікавості, хотіла дізнатися, наскільки зручно працювати з тією пряжею. З'ясувалося, що не дуже, але у мене є шапка :-)(модель було взято тут).

I have never made that before but didn't search for any tips in the Internet. I sewed the jacket with known me seams that conceal the fabric edges. The first of them is the one that is called "locked" seam here.



Я такого ніколи раніше не робила, але порад в Інтернеті шукати не стала. Пошила жакет відомими мені швами, які приховують краї тканини. Перший з них той, який ми називаємо шов "в замок".

The centre back, sides, collar, sleeves, shoulders - all of the seams are stitched with this stitch.



Середній шов спинки, шов коміра, бокові та плечові, шви рукавів - все з'єднано  цим швом.

The next one is called here "double" seam. I used it to sew the sleeves to the jacket. At first the details were put together right side to the right side and stitched with about 0.4 cm seam allowance. Then turn the details out put wrong side to the wrond and stitch with about 1 cm seam allowance. The first stitch makes the rib.



Наступний стібок - "подвійний". Використала для втачування рукавів у пройми. Спочатку складаємо деталі лицевими сторонами і прострочуємо десь на 4 мм від краю, вивертаємо деталь, складаємо виворітні сторони і прострочуємо десь на см від краю. Попередній шов утворює ребро.

None of those seams was good to sew the collar to the jacket because of the thickness of the fabric layers. I followed the magazine's instruction and disgised the joining seam under the decorative tape, the one I had in stash. Before stitching the tape, the seam allowance must be cut in the way it is shown in the photo.

Жоден з цих швів не підійшов для втачування коміра через велику товщину шарів тканини. Я зробила як в журнальній інструкції - замаскувала шов під декоративною тасьмою яку мала в запасі.  перед пришиванням тасьми, припуск на шов коміра має бути підрізаний як на фото.

The jacket's collar is pretty wide so I thought it would be good to help it a little to make nice draping and not to look like a hood. I pleated it and sewed the pleats with the invisible stitch from both sides.



Комір жакету доволі широкий, тож я подумала, що було б непогано трохи йому допомогти утворити гарне драпування, щоб не був схожий на капюшон. Заклала його в складки, а складки зшила потайним стібком з обох боків.

The last modification - the belt. I added it mostly because I hate open lapels when it is windy. I made in the way it is made in the morning gowns. Two short belts were sewed to the side seams to the "wrong" (monocolour) side. In this way I can tie the belts inside and lapels won't turned out too much. If the jacket is worn on the "wrong" side, the belt can be tied in front or on the back.


Остання модифікація - пасок. Я його пришила з єдиної причини - мене надзвичайно дратують розчахнуті поли жакетів без застібки у вітряну погоду. Пасок було пришито, як у халатів: два коротких паски пришила до бокових швів з "виворітної" (однокольорової) сторони. Так я можу зав'язати паски з середини і поли не будуть аж надто вивертатися. Якщо ж жакет одягнути на "виворітну" сторону, паски можна зав'язати по переду або на спині.

Spring Kitchen's Outfit :-)

I like all the seasons in their turn. I like them outdoors and I like to feel them inside the house and not only because of turned on or turned off heating:-) Besides, we celebrate Easter in a week so it is pleasant to renew not only own wardrobe but the house's as well :-)

There was done nothing special. I only made new curtains for the kitchen and, from the remnants of the fabric, sewed a table cloth... It seems it is called a table runner in English speaking countries but here we call such small table cloth napkins.
It is quick project that needs no drafts and only initial sewing skills are necessary so any beginner is able to make it.

Весняне вбрання для кухні :-)

Я люблю всі пори року в їхній час. Мені подобається відчувати їх на вулиці і відчувати їх вдома і не лише через увімкнене чи вимкнене опалення:-) До того ж за тиждень ми святкуємо Великдень, тож приємно оновити не лише власний гардероб, але і вбрання для кухні :-)

Нічого особливого я не зробила, лише пошила нові штори і, з залишків тієї ж тканини, велику серветку на стіл.
Цей проект не потребує жодних викрійок, а лише елементарних навичок пошиття, тож будь який початківець здатний це зробити.



... Hmm... after loading the photos it became clear that the story of the making will took much more time than the sewing actually:-)...


.... Гммм... по закінченні завантажування світлин стало очевидним, що розповідь про роботу займе набагато більше часу ніж саме пошиття:-)...

So let's start with the curtian. Not every curtain fabric requires it but this time the selvage had to be folded and stitched along at least one side.





Почнемо зі штори. Не кожна шторна тканина цього потребує, але цього разу крайка тканини мала бути підшита принаймні вздовж одієї сторони.

Now the curtain is ready to sew the curtain loop tape. It is made exactly as it was made here. The reason to be attentive with the fabric this time - the direction of the print pattern.

Тепер можна пришивати тасьму на штору. Це робиться точнісінько як тут. Але цього разу треба бути уважним з напрямком узору тканини.

Process the hem. Fold the edge of the fabric twice. At first for one cm, then for as much as you added for the hem allowance, in my case - six cm. After washing the curtain can become shorter so let it be a little extra fabric to remake the hem ... just in case.




Обробляємо низ. Двічі підгинаємо тканину, спочатку на один см, потім настільки, скільки дали припуск на підгинку низу. В моєму випадку - на шість см. Після прання тканина може дати усадку, тож нехай буде трохи запасу для переробки... про всяк випадок.

The table runner  was made from the leftover fabric. It was about 55 cm x 180 cm. So at first it was cut along the centre to get two parts, then these parts were joined together to get the piece about 90 cm  x 110 cm. As it is a kitchen thing, it is supposed to wash often so the parts were joined with seam that is called "locked" here. Hope it is clear fronm photos how to make it.




Серветку пошито з залишку тканини, це було приблизно 55 cm x 180 cm. Тож спочатку я її розрізала по центру на дві частини, потім ті частини зшила і отримала шматок десь 90 cm  x 110 cm. Оскільки серветка для кухні і буде пратися доволі часто, то частини було зшито швом "в замок". Сподіваюсь по фото зрозуміло,як це робиться.

Sewing the lace is the most troublesome part. At first make the square of the piece. All the selvages must be cut out to avoid the further gathering of the fabric when sewing the lace.





Пришивання мережива - найбільш клопітка частина. Спочатку вирізаємо квадрат. Всі крайки мають бути відрізані для запобігання стягування тканини під час пришивання мережива.

It is easier to make if to process the edges of the table runner and then to stitch the lace. But I prefer doing that at the same time.
Put the wrong side of the lace to the wrong side of the fabric. Leave the narrow edge allowance of the lace. Stitch it to the  fabric.



Легше це зробити якщо спочатку обробити краї серветки, потім настрочити мереживо. Але я визнаю за краще робити водночас.
Складаємо зворотні сторони мережива і тканини. Залишаємо вузький запас по краю мережива. Настрочуємо його на тканину.


AT THE SAME TIME!/ ВОДНОЧАС!

To make the neat corners the extra lace must be left. It is hard to count how much at once. It depends on the width of the lace (the wider lace, the more extra length is left). So when the stitching is at about 2 cm around the corner, stop it and try to fold the lace as an envelope. In this way you'll see how much extra lace you need. So leave it, turn youe runner and go on stitching on the other side. And do the same three more times.



Щоб зробити охайні куточки, треба залишати запас мережива. Розрахувати наперед скільки, важко. Це залежить від  ширини мережива. Чим ширше мереживо, тим більший запас треба залишити. Тому, коли строчка десь біля 2 см до кутка, зупиняємось і намагаємось скласти мереживо конвертом. таким чином ми побачимо, скільки додаткової довжини мережива потрібно. Залишаємо її, повертаємо серветку і продовжуємо строчку по наступній стороні. І так робимо ще три рази.

After that, the piece must be ironed on the wrong side. Then stitch the lace on the right side. It can be made with straight stitching but I prefer to use zigzag here. Start with sewing the corner of the laces edges. After the lace is sewed, stitch the lace's corners with the zigzag stitch. I don't cut the corners of the lace.


Після цього серветку треба припрасувати з зворотнього боку. Потім настрочуємо мереживо по лицевій стороні. Можна прямим стібком, але я надаю перевагу зигзагу. Починаємо із зшивання кутку з кінців мережива. Коли мереживо нашите, настрочуємо куточки з мережива швом зигзаг.  Припуски у куточках я не обрізаю.

The work was not very hard but took me almost all the day together with hanging the curtains ... and I made them two: one for the kitchen and one for my bedroom. The story of latter one, the polka dots curtain, is for some other post.




Робота була не важка, але зайняла майже весь день разом з вішанням штор... а я ж зробила їх дві: одну для кухні, а іншу для моєї спальні. Розповідь про другу, штору в горошок, можливо колись буде в якомусь іншому дописі:-)

Asymmetric Dress, or Following the Spring

On unknown reason I am sure if this project had been made in autumn, as it meant to be at first, the colour would speak autumn language but as it is made in spring, as my projects live on their own will and have own division on seasons, I only can say  that this colour is spring itself:-))
I was orating about spring here and here and it is hard not to yield the temptation to repeat all those words again:-) But revival and expectation are really main spring feelings and in this time of year it is so easy to believe and hope for the best things.
While working on the dress, once in a while I was listening to some vintage music. It created  dreamy mood full with vague but quite exquisite images of old films or their modern imitations (let's define them as "vintage", too), which I saw not so many. I like their elegant atmosphere of good manners and candid feelings. And this perception is the same either it goes about detectives or comedies or ingenious plots of romantic stories.
I don't look like the women of none of those films and can't be their character but I am surely able to afford myself to be inspired with them. And here it is the outcome.

It is so good there is spring, every year time for dreams and hopes...)

Асиметрична сукня, або По дорозі із весною

Невідомо чому, але я впевнена, що якби цю сукню було пошито восени, як це і мало бути, то її колір  розмовляв би виключно мовою осені, але оскільки її пошито навесні, бо мої проекти живуть власним життям і мають власний розподіл на пори року, я можу сказати, що цей колір - то сама весна:-))
Я вже просторікувала про весну тут і тут і важко не піддатися спокусі та не повторити всі ті слова знову:-) Але ж відродження та очікування і справді головні весняні почуття і в цю пору року так легко вірити і сподіватися на все найкраще.
Поки працювала над сукнею, час від часу слухала збірки вінтажної музики.  Це створювало такий собі мрійливий настрій наповнений непевними, але вишуканими образами зі старих фільмів, або їхніх сучасних імітацій (назвемо їх "вінтажними" теж), яких я бачила не так вже і багато. Мені подобається їхня елегантна атмосфера гарних манер та щирих почуттів. І таке сприйняття не змінюється чи йдеться про детективи та комедії або про простодушні сюжети романтичних історій.
Я не схожа на жінку з тих фільмів і не можу бути їхньою героїнею, але без сумніву можу собі дозволити черпати з них натхнення. А ось це результат.

Це так чудово, що у нас щороку є весна  -  час для сподівань і мрій...)

The chosen pattern is dress #110 from Burda 12/2015. I can't say I liked it from the first sight but when starting thinking over the outfit for this coral knits, I decided it was the best choice.



Обрана модель - сукня 110 з Burda 12/2015. Не можу сказати, що вона мені дуже сподобалася з першого погляду, але коли почата обдумувати вбрання з цього коралового трикотажу, вирішила, що це найкращий вибір.

The pattern is for tall girls so the first changes concerned the drafts.. They had to be decreased for 2 cm along the pointed lines of all the details .



Модель для високих дівчат, тож перші зміни стосувалися зміни викрійки. Всі деталі було зменшено на 2 см уздовж вказаних ліній.

Next tip is about the pleats. It often happens when wearing clothes with pleats, the pleats are unpicking at the ends so to avoid that I make a couple of stitches athwart the pleat's.



Наступний прийомчик про складки. Під час носки одягу зі складками, вони часто розпорюються, тому, щоб цього уникнути, я роблю декілька стібків упоперек складки.

But my main doubt before the sewing was if the fabric is not too dense and thick for this pattern. So after stitching the pleats I steamed them at first separately, then  all together to make all those layers of the fabric thinner. I was afraid the ready seams would be rough or bulging.



Але мій головний сумнів перед пошиттям був, чи не затовста і не занадто щільна тканина для цієї моделі.  Тому після зшивання складок, спочатку я їх відпарювала кожну окрему, потім всі разом, щоб потоншити всі ті шари тканини.  Боялася, що в готовому вигляді шви будуть грубими і випнутими.

Then I thought that the first pleats' allowance (both of the bodice and the skirt) mustn't be included into the seams. So when joining details 7 and 8, I stitched them in two steps. At first from the mark 1 to the mark 2, then I omitted the rest of the pleat and stitched the seam to the end.



Потім я подумала, що припуски на перші складки (і верхньої частини і спідниці) не мають бути вшиті у шви, тому, коли з'єднувала деталі 7 і 8, я робила це в два етапи. Спершу стачала шов від мітки 1 до 2, потім пропустила решту складки і дострочила шов до кінця.

Obviously when joining the front parts of the skirt, the pleat was also out of the seam.




Вочевидь, що коли зшивалися передні частини спідниці, припуск на складки теж не увійшов у шов.

One more thing must be done neatly not to look rough in the ready item. I mean the pressing of all the chaos got after sewing all the front details together:-)


Ще один вузол мав бути зроблений дуже охайно, щоб не виглядати грубо в готовому вигляді. А саме - прасування того хаосу, який утворився після з'єднання передніх частин спідниці:-)
