Combined Dress, or Yachting Day

Last year I was stuck to the idea not to buy any new meter of fabric until my stash is empty. This dream still sounds perfect and I worked insistently for some time to make it true but one point in it wasn't taken into the consideration and caused my doubts as for the sanity of that plan:-) I wondered why it hadn't occurred to me that a piece of fabric takes much less room than a piece of clothes made from it. And having empty stash I would have an overloaded wardrobe which, unfortunately, has no intention to stretch. So having a couple extra pieces of accurately folded material and only planning sewing from it  leave my wardrobe out of danger to be broken :-)
There's one more way to save the room in it. If you like two or more materials and they match each other pretty well, you can make one outfit instead of two or three. It is exactly the case with this my new one:-)
And how does it relate the yachts? It is obvious: the fresh airy colours of the fabrics bring to my mind one of the most relaxing summer views - white yachts on the background of blue waves and the outfit's comfy, almost loose silhouette that restricts none of moves, makes the dress  ideal for any summer walks... including aboard of any kind of boat :-)

Magatama bracelets and the earrings were made right to complete the outfit.

Комбінована сукня, або Прогулянка на яхті

Минулого року мене захопила ідея не купувати жодного нового метру тканини допоки мої запаси не будуть вичерпані. Ця мрія все ще звучить непогано і я доволі наполегливо працювала над її втіленням, але одну малюсіньку деталь не було взято до уваги що і спричинило мої сумніви щодо розумності того плану:-) Мене раптом спантеличила думка, що шматок тканини займає набагато менше місця ніж предмет одягу пошитий з нього. І позбувшись запасів, я матиму переповнену шафу, яка, на превеликий жаль, не має властивості розтягуватись. Тож мати пару відрізів зайвої охайно складеної тканини і лише планувати щось з неї пошити забезпечить моїй шафі довге і безпечне життя:-)
Є ще один спосіб зекономити в ній місце. Якщо Вам, наприклад, подобається дві або три тканини одразу і вони підходять одна одній за кольором, можна замість двох-трьох предметів створити один. Якраз так я і пошила нову сукні:-)
А до чого ж тут яхти? Це ж очевидно: легкі свіжі кольори тканин наштовхують на думку про один з найгарніших літніх пейзажів: яхти на фоні блакитних хвиль; а її далекий від прилягання силует, що дозволяє вільно рухатися, робить сукню ідеальною для будь яких літніх прогулянок ... включно на борту якогось човника:-)

 

I did have small pieces of the fabrics and as they matched really well so I decided to pair them. The pattern 123 from Burda 8/2015 seemed to be good for that.
The blue and orange bracelets and the earrings were made specially to match the dress:-)





У мене і справді були невеличкі відрізи матеріалів і вони добре сполучалися за кольором, тож я і вирішила скомбінувати їх. Модель 123 з Burda 8/2015 здалася гарним варантом для цього.
Блакитний і помаранчевий браслети та сережки були зроблені спеціально під цю сукню:-)

The piece of the blue linen was not just small, it turned out to be not enough for making the skirt. So I had to add some individuality to the design:-) As it is said, "If you want to conceal something, emphasise it". So did I :-) I cut the triangles and sewed them to the sides. Then draw the new side line. One more point - the skirt almost doesn't have a difference of the centre and side lines so be careful while cutting. For example, at first I arranged the side part to the centre  fold of the fabric and noticed the mistake not at once. It was easy to re-cut but my inattentiveness was unpleasant anyway.


Відріз блакитного льону був не просто маленьким, його було не достатньо для крою спідниці. Тож довелося додати трохи індивідуальності до дизайну:-) Як то кажуть, " Хоче щось приховати, підкресли це":-) Так я і зробила. Покроїла трикутники, які і пришила по боках, потім накреслила нову лінію бокового шву.
Ще одне зауваження - лінія середини переду і боку маже не відрізняються, тому треба бути уважним під час крою. Я, наприклад, спочатку розташувала викрійку боковим швом до згину тканини і зовсім не одразу помітила помилку. Перекроїти було неважко, але моя неуважність все одно була неприємною.

Generally the dress sewing is quick and simple. I would recommend the pattern for the beginners. It is good practice to make the facing. While working with the detail, don't forget to make short cuts before turning it out. After it is turned out, baste the facing with the narrowest band on the wrong side of the neck hole.


Загалом пошиття сукні просте і швидке. Я б рекомендувала модель для початківців. Гарна практика навчитися обробляти обшивки. Під час роботи до вивертання обшивки не забуваємо робити надрізи по колу горловини. Після вивертання виметуємо обшивку залишаючи найвужчий кант.

After that stitch the facing to the right side of the bodice. It is worth pinning the detail before the basting and stitching to avoid its twisting that can happen because the facing has a curvy shape.



Після того настрочуємо обшивку до лицевої сторони  верхньої частини. Деталь варто пришпилити перед наметуванням, щоб уникнути подальшого перекосу, який може трапитися тому що деталь має закруглення.

In the same way the sleeves' hems are processed.



Так само обробляємо і обшивку низу рукавів.
