Linen Jacket, or Rosy Chants :-)

I have neither rosy nor pink dreams and in no way I see the life through the pink glasses ( and never did, actually). And more than that I consider these colours are very dangerous for  women to wear: pink can emphasize our age (have I really mentioned that?:-)) and make us look funny or, at the worst, ridiculous... As you see, there are not many reasons to contact such colours but I definitely have a couple of pink items in  my wardrobe: roseate can look optimistic, fresh and pretty romantic if to select the right hue :-) And how to choose what hue I can afford, I invented long ago - look at the nature: sometimes a fading rose looks nice ... doesn't it? :-)

Лляний жакет, або Рожевий Наспів :-)

 

У мене немає жодних рожевих мрій і жодним чином я не дивлюся на життя крізь рожеві окуляри ( взагалі, такого ніколи і не було). Мало того, я вважаю, що вдягатися у рожеве жінці досить небезпечно: подібні кольори підкреслюють наш вік (я і справді  це сказала?:-)) і можуть надати нам кумедного вигляду, а в найгіршому випадку, навіть і смішного... Як бачимо, зв'язуватись з рожевими кольорами немає жодного сенсу, але все ж таки є у мене в гардеробі двійко-трійко таких речей: рожевий виглядає оптимістично, свіжо і досить романтично, якщо обрати правильний відтінок:-) А як це зробити, я винайшла для себе роки тому - поглянь навколо: іноді і троянда, що в'яне, виглядає гарною,... чи не так?:-)

So for my a couple-days-ago-finished suit I chose two patterns: for skirt - #117 from Burda 3/2013,  and for the jacket - #126 from Burda 4/2014.
For the skirt I chose thin jacquard fabric and if it is really made from viscose and cotton, I hope to wear the skirt in summer. For the jacket I used linen - the best choice for warm days, no doubt.

Отже, щоб пошити цей костюм, я обрала модель № 117 з Burda 3/2013 для спідниці і модель №126 з Burda 4/2014 для жакета.
Спідницю пошито з тонкого жакарду і, якщо це правда, що він виготовлений з віскози та бавовни, то сподіваюсь носити спідницю влітку. Для жакета я обрала льон, до речі, українського виробництва.

                

The skirt has no distinctive features and the paper pattern can also be used like a basic sloper for further modelling. It has no band and generally I add it. I hate that rotating of the skirt around the waist and hips when you never know whether  your zipper is at the right place at the moment. But this time I decided to change nothing in the pattern. At the same time I would recommend to reinforce the edges of the slоt with interface and add loops on the sides to hang the skirt.

Спідниця не містить нічого особливого, а викрійка може використовуватись як основа для подальшого моделювання. Вона не має поясу та,  зазвичай, я його додаю. Бо обертання спідниці навколо талії і стегон, коли не відомо, куди перемістився боковий шов разом із "блискавкою",  дратують.  Чомусь цього разу я не дослухалась до свого досвіду і нічого не стала змінювати. Але все ж таки рекомендую зміцнити краї шліци клеєвим флізеліном, а також пришити  петлі вздовж бокових швів, щоб можна було вішати спідницю.

                                               

The jacket is more interesting, of course. Іt has many constructive lines and, as it is sewed of linen, I made top stitches along most of them to make the jacket keep the shape.
Besides, I made some modification. I shortened the sleeve and made single piece cuffs. It is easy to make right  after joining two halves of the sleeve but before you have to decide what width of your cuff will be and cut extra fabric. But you can change a paper pattern at first as well. 
In my case I wanted the sleeve for 12 cm shorter ( in fact 3/4 ) and a cuff of 5 cm width so I had to add to my new sleeve's length 5cm + 5 cm + 2 cm to cover the seam and + 1cm for seam allowance ( in fact, 12 cm + 2 so I didn't have to change the paper pattern). 

                                                

Жакет цікавіший, звісно. Він має багато конструктивних ліній, і вздовж майже всіх я проклала оздоблювальну строчку, щоб готовий виріб зберігав форму.
Крім того, я його трохи змінила. Вкоротила рукава і зробила цільнокрійні відвороти по низу. Це легко зробити прямо на  деталях після зшивання двох половинок рукава, але спочатку маємо визначитись із шириною відвороту, щоб мати достатньо тканини.
Рукав я вкоротила на 12 см, відворот в готовому вигляді мав бути 5 см, тому до нової лінії низу рукава я мала додати 5 + 5 + 2 см ( сховати шов) + припуск на шов 1 см. Фактично, це 12 см і тому мені не довелося змінювати викройку.

After sewing the sleeves look like this and now you can draw the lines for the folding. From up to down: the line of folding; the line of the rib of the cuff; the line of folding ( must coincide with the first one); the line of the seam allowance.

Після зшивання рукава виглядають таким чином і можна намітити лінії згинів. Зверху вниз: лінія згину готового відвороту; лінія згину (ребро) відвороту; лінія згину готового відвороту (має співпасти з першою); лінія згину припуску на шов.

The ready cuffs are here and to prevent them from unfolding, you can make some top stitches on the cuffs (about 3 cm) right into the seam from an elbow side.

Ось і готові відвороти. Щоб вони в такому вигляді і тримались, краще дати строчку шов у шов, десь 3 см по середині відвороту, по нижній частині рукава.

As for me, it is an important detail that really adds some charm to the jacket. As I couldn't match nothing like that on the photo in the magazine, I decided to make it myself. It's easy and fun to make and you can invent whatever you want on your own taste.

Як на мене - це важлива деталь, що додає певного шарму до моделі, хоча вона і невеличка. Я не змогла підібрати щось подібне до того, як на фото, тому просто вирішила зробити таку деталь сама. Це і просто, і весело, і можна вигадати різні варіанти на власний смак.
