About Me

My photo
My blog's main subjects are sewing, the thing in which I am experienced the most, and beadwork, which is, in fact, pushed me into blogging. I am also engaged in knitting and crocheting. All together they are the set of skills which I use to make my wardrobe my whole life. These are not my only interests, I also like the English language (that's one of the reasons that my blog is bilingual), try to travel around my country and abroad (when can afford it), am interested in art (to the degree of a dilettante but nevertheless) and adore the people who can create anything beautiful or useful whatever it is :-) So welcome to a needlecrafter diary!

Trips & Crafts

When I am far from home for some time, I avoid any computer activity and watching TV. And, as a rule, I just make a couple of calls home to say if I got the destination or am on my way back home already. It is a real rest for me. In this way I feel myself absolutely estranged from my valid reality not depending on distances and places. And  looking out of the window or napping in a train or a bus are the best meditation for me :-) But during any journey there are some minutes to stop...  It is like... Hmm... Well, when you buy perfume (or at least pretend you are going to do that:-)) after smelling two or three aromas you stop differing the scents and, at least in our stores, you are suggested to smell coffee to renew the ability. So a trip project is something like this coffee smelling break for me:-)
The theme is pretty popular among the needle workers. I've noticed some specialised magazines devote entire issues to it with many ideas for trip projects. And I have my own opinion as well :-)
So, at first choosing the craft. For me it is easier to crochet on the go. It is more mobile and I'm never afraid to miss or lose or slip the stitch because the mistakes are easy to correct. Then - the pattern. On my mind (and experience!) it should be neither very small to finish the work before the trip is over nor too big in order to finish it right after coming back home and not to bury the project in some bag to wait for the next trip (that can never happen). And yarn: let's remember we don't  need extra luggage  and keep in mind the season: e.g., nobody wants more  sweating because of crafting in summer:-)                                                                   .

For one of my three-day May weekends, which I was lucky to spend in Kherson region where I visited wonderful sights, I chose this shawlette. It is a crochet pattern, I used cotton for making it and one more important point - it is made of remnants so needed no extra expense. The shawlette is an example of the patterns that looks much better in the projects of crocheters than in the sample on the site.
Аctually, I was hesitating between two patterns so at first crocheted two swatches. One for this shawl and another with "love knot". For the yarn I had I like the first better.

Then just crocheted until the yarn was over. Then spread and steamed. The ready shawlette is 120cm length and  55cm maximum width.

I guess while travelling and working on such a special project you are as if including your impressions in it and then having them with you all the time while wearing the item. So I wish all of us to have wonderful trips and great projects on the go!
