Beaded Beads Earrings

This pair of earrings makes up a set with this bracelet but  any signs of stylisation are absent in them because the piece is a simple combination of beaded beads. It is one of those cases when having tons of patterns in stash and endless playlists, finally, I create something my own and so the preparation and thinking over the ready piece takes much more time than the making itself.

Ця пара сережок утворює набір з цим намистом, але жодних знак стилізації тут не знайти, тому що це зразок простої комбінації обплетених намистин. Це один з тих випадків, коли маючи в запасі тони моделей і безмірні плейлисти, зрештою, я роблю щось своє і тому на підготовку і обмірковування моделі іде набагато більше часу ніж на її виконання.

The earrings consist of two elements. The first of them is a beaded 8 mm pearl. I already made few projects with such beads, for example this one. As you see, the ready bead is about 10 mm so it can be used in other projects when you need the bead of such diameter.


Сережки складаються з двох елементів. перший з них - обплетена перлина 8 мм. Я вже робила речі з такими намистинами, наприклад, ось тут. Як бачиш, готова намистина - приблизно 10 мм і її можна використати в інших проектах, де потрібна намистина такого діаметру.

The second element is a beaded bead, too, but made in different way. The idea occurred when watching this video from  +Nunzia Scalpore. I thought her element can be interpreted in different ways so I modified it a little to get a flat beaded bead. I made the elements with various seed beads and still don't know which side I like better. 


Другий елемент - теж намистина, але сплетена в інший спосіб. Ідея осяяла, коли дивилася це відео від +Nunzia Scalpore. Я подумала, що її елемент можна змінити по-різному, тож я це і зробила, щоб отримати пласку намистину. Елемент зробила з бісеру різних кольорів, але і досі не знаю, яка сторона мені подобається більше.

I tried to add few more different elements and embellish the second one but then omitted all of those ideas... maybe will use them later. This modest design seems to be what I really wanted.
I wonder when the matching dress is ready... :-)


Я пробувала додати ще якісь елементи та прикрасити другу намистину, але всі ті ідеї відкинула... можливо колись потім їх використаю. Здається, цей невибагливий дизайн - якраз те, що я хотіла. 
Цікаво, а коли ж буде готова сукня, до якої всі ці прикраси призначено... :-)

Flower Bracelet, or Stylization

Today is the first day of my vacation. And it is almost evening of it... I don't feel I am free yet, few days are needed to start enjoying it and to want to have something else around but silence.
And all said above doesn't relate the new project... just reasoning aloud:-)
One of the first terms I learnt at school Art lessons was stylization (also possible it is the only term I remember:-)). Now I am old and prone to imply more figurative sense in it but when it goes about beading this term has no interpretation. For example, the flowers of this bracelet can be associated with any flower we can find around: from daisy to rose, thanking to the colour style and the shape of the petals and the author connected it with a hibiscus... probably because its stamen gives no chance to other flowers.

Квітковий браслет, або Стилізація

Сьогодні перший день моєї відпустки. І вже майже його вечір... Ще не відчуваю, що я вільна, декілька днів потрібно, щоб почати цим насолоджуватися і щоб хотіти відчути навколо ще щось  крім тиші.
Все вище згадане не має стосунку до мого нового проекту... просто роздуми вголос:-)
Один з перших термінів, який я вивчила на шкільних уроках малювання був "стилізація" (можливо також, він єдиний, який я пам'ятаю:-)). Зараз я доросла і схильна вкладати в нього більш образний сенс, але коли йдеться про нанизування, цей термін жодних інтерпретацій не має. Наприклад, завдяки кольоровій гамі та формі пелюсток квіти на цьому браслеті можуть асоціюватися з будь якою квіткою, яку можна знайти: від маргаритки до троянди, а ось автор пов'язала її з                                                                                                                            гібіскусом, мабуть тому, що його плодоніжка не залишила                                                                                                                      шансів іншим квітам.

I saw many bracelets of the kind, I mean with the wire framework. I like them so wanted to try to make. This is my first attempt and hope it won't be the last. The pattern by Scarlett Lanson from Beadwork April/May 2009. It was preferred, of course, to match one of the next sewing projects. I beaded with 10.0 seed beads and when sewing all the parts together, also used only bigger seed beads. First flower's petals are not connected tight so I had to add two stamens to cover the holes and when joined the petals of the second flower, just sewed the beaded beads without 15.0. In this way the result was better and one stem was enough.

Я бачила багато браслетів такого типу, тобто на дротяному каркасі. Вони мені подобаються, тож хотілося спробувати зробити. Це моя перша спроба, сподіваюся - не остання. Модель від Scarlett Lanson з "Beadwork" квітень/травень 2009. Звісно, я надала їй перевагу тому, що це доповнення до однієї з майбутніх суконь. Працювала з бісером №10 і, коли зшивала всі пелюстки до купи, не використовувала менший номер. Пелюстки першої квітки не з'єдналися достатньо щільно, тому я додала дві плодоніжки, щоб прикрити дірки і коли зшивала другу квітку, просто зшила намистини між собою без бісеру №15. Це дало кращий результат і тому одної плодоніжки було достатньо.

What I learnt from the project - I am skillful enough to predict what will be wrong with the project:-)
When I started the beading, I thought it would be better to use plastic beads because the pearls are too heavy and I don't know how stiff the wire must be to keep the flowers and not let the bracelet to move down. I didn't replace the beads but consoled with the right thought:-) I decided to use memory wire.  After trying the ready bracelet on, I fell in love with it but to make it look in the way I had imagined, I added a magnetic clasp. So my bracelet is not bangle but it stays in the wrist where I want.
NB! When sewing the flowers to the framework, extra attention is necessary otherwise you will remake it as I did.

Чого мене навчив цей проект - я достатньо кваліфікована, щоб передбачати, що буде не так з проектом:-)
Коли я розпочала  працювати над браслетом, подумала, що було б краще використати пластикові намистини, тому що перлини надто важки і я не знаю, наскільки жорсткою має бути дріт, щоб утримати квіти і не дозволяти браслетові сповзати вниз. Намистини я не замінила, але потішилася своєю здогадкою:-) Використала дріт з пам'яттю. Після примірки браслету я в нього закохалася, проте, щоб він виглядав на руці так, як я собі уявляла, довелося додати магнітну застібку. Тож браслет мій з застібкою, але він сидить на зап'ястку там, де я хочу.
NB! Пришиваючи квіти до основи необхідна додаткова увага інакше доведеться це переробляти так, як довелося мені.

Twins' Spiral Bangle

When making spontaneous projects I am always glad I have some materials in reserve. It also helps when it is easy to substitute the necessary beads for the ones you have. Because then it is so easy to make something quick with a nice outcome at any moment when inspiration lights you :-)

Браслет зі спіраллю з твінів

Коли роблю спонтанні проекти, завжди радію, що в запасах маю якісь матеріали. Також дуже допомагає, якщо необхідні матеріали можна замінити на ті, які в тебе є. Тому що тоді так легко зробити щось швидко і з гарним результатом в будь який момент щойно тебе осяє натхнення:-)

The bracelet is a random choice of a pattern for white and black twins which I have a lot in stash. I saw it on the cover of Beadwork October/November 2015 and the design belongs to Lisa Kan but it can be made without an instruction.

I used 10.0 seed beads and twins. I also made less craw cubes for start row.

Браслет - випадковий вибір моделі з білих та чорних твінів, яких у мене багато в запасі. Я його побачила на обкладинці журналу "Beadwork" жовтень/листопад 2015, дизайн належить Lisa Kan, але його можна зробити і без інструкції.
Я використала бісер 10,0 і твіни. Також почала з меншої кількості кубиків craw.

Despite on the photo the bangle makes an impression of a not small piece, in fact, on the wrist, it looks pretty delicate and I think it would be great to wear few of them  for better effect.

Незважаючи на те що на фото браслет здається величеньким, насправді, на зап'ястку, він виглядає доволі делікатним і задля кращого ефекту, думаю, краще носити декілька таких браслетів.

Fading Tulips Earrings

I don't like to postpone projects making jewelry sets. But it happens, of course. Sometimes because I can't make a decision what I really want from that set, sometimes because I have no necessary materials at the right moment, sometimes because the matching outfit is not ready and I have time for doubts:-) Unfortunately, there is a risk that, while delaying making something, I can lose the interest to it and that is the reason of my dislike. 

So as soon as the materials for the earrings to pair the pendant were gathered, I came back to Smadar's Grossman's pattern and for about a couple of hours the earrings were ready.

The pattern is a small element of the pendant. They are quick to bead but I decided to add different drop to make the earrings heavier otherwise they would be too light and didn't keep the shape.

Сережки "Тюльпани що в'януть"

Не люблю відкладати виготовлення прикрас, що утворюють набори. Але, звісно, це трапляється. Іноді тому, що я не можу вирішити, що я насправді хочу від того набору, іноді тому що в певний момент не маю необхідних матеріалів, а іноді тому, що поки немає відповідного вбрання, у мене є час на сумніви:-) На жаль, у випадку відкладання роботи, є ризик втратити до неї цікавість - ось це і є головна причина моєї нелюбові.

Тому, щойно матеріали  для сережок в пару до кулону було зібрано, я повернулася до моделі Smadar Grossman і протягом пари годин сережки були готові.

Зразок сережок - маленький елемент кулону. Нанизується швидко, але я вирішила, додати інший вид краплі, щоб сережки були важчі інакше вони були б надто легкими і не тримали б форму.

Rayon Dress, or If It's Worth Following Intuition

If one of my previous projects was inspired by stubbornness, this one - is the product of following the intuition... and I am not sure if the border between those sources of inspiration is definite enough :-)
My first attempt to make the dress happened more than two years ago. But then I changed the intention in favour of the other model. I chose different design but saved the paper pattern and it meant I hoped to come back to it some day.
The issue was the enormous quantity of the necessary fabric. They mention at least 2.70 m. But the cutting supposes huge remnants of the material. I don't like such good for nothing leftover. Besides, now, when the outfit is ready, it is clear that fabric must be not just well draping but thin at the same time.
Let's be honest, the photo in the magazine doesn't flatter the dress. I chose this pattern not because I liked it on the model but because  I understood by the technical draw in the instruction how nice it could be. The dress has one of my favourite details - a kimono sleeve with a gusset (we call it here "one-single-piece-cut" sleeve with a gusset). It also has a wonderful draping detail of the boat neck hole. Thanking to the latter and the right fabric it feels as if the dress  flows from your shoulders and wreathes you in a soft gentle wrap. The feeling strengthens with the fabric pattern that casts thoughts about some romantic blizzard of lilac petals. So tell me if there was any reason not to sew the dress after the main trouble vanished? :-)

Сукня з віскози, або Чи варто слідувати інтуїції 

Якщо один з моїх попередніх проектів з'явився на світ завдяки впертості, то цей - результат слідування інтуїції.... і я не впевнена, чи існує визначена межа між цими двома джерелами натхнення :-)
Вперше я спробувала пошити цю сукню трохи більше ніж два роки тому. Але змінила намір на користь іншої моделі. Обрала інший дизайн, але викрійку залишила, і це означало, що я збиралася колись до неї повернутися.
Капость була в величезній кількості необхідної тканини. В журналі вказано щонайменше 2,70 м. Але крій передбачає якісь невимірні залишки тканини. Мені таке не подобається, якщо ті залишки ні до чого не придатні. Крім того, зараз, коли вбрання вже готове, зрозуміло, що тканина має не лише добре драпіруватися, але водночас бути тонкою.
Будьмо чесними, фото в журналі не надто лестить цій сукні. Я її обрала не тому, що вона мені сподобалася на моделі, а тому що за технічним малюнком в інструкції, я зрозуміла, якою гарною вона може бути. Сукня має одну з моїх улюблених деталей - цільнокрійний рукав з ластовицею. Також по переду вирізу човником у неї чудове драпірування. Завдяки останньому та правильній тканині почуваєшся наче сукня струменить з плечей і м'яко та ніжно огортає тебе. Відчуття посилюється візерунком тканини, що навіює думки про якусь романтичну заметіль бузкових пелюсток. Тож скажіть, чи була у мене хоч одна причина не шити цю сукню після того, як її головна проблема зникла ?:-)

So I managed to make the dress from 1.80 m of the fabric. I just cut the back part of the sleeve and cut it separately. That's all. Then before sewing the dress I stitched the details and go on processing as with the single detail. As the fabric pattern is quite pied and dense, the seam is not seen on the ready item but saving of the material is great indeed.



Отже мені вдалося пошити сукню з 1,80 м тканини. Я просто відрізала задню частину рукава і викроїла її окремо. Оце і все. Потім перед початком роботи зшила деталі спинки і вже далі обробляла як одну. Оскільки візерунок тканини строкатий і щільний, шов у готовому вбранні майже непомітний, а економія матеріалу - величезна.

The dress is made by the pattern 104 from Burda 12/2013. The fabric is stretch blend of viscose (rayon) and p/e.

This time the sewing was not very smoothly. The dress needed extra fitting because it turned out to be very loose. I did those changes only after the dress was almost ready but it is easier to explain on the paper pattern. So, all the side lines should be decreased along the waist at least for 1.5 cm. If you like it tight, you can enlarge the number.



Цього разу без ускладнень не обійшлося. Сукня потребувала додаткової підгонки тому що виявилася дуже вільною. Всі ці зміни я зробила, коли вона була майже готова, але краще пояснити це на паперовій викрійці. Тож, всі бокові лінії варто звузити хоча б на 1,5 см по лінії талії. Якщо подобається щось тісніше, можна і більше.

The main crash was the centre back. After sewing a zipper, the dress got a wavy silhouette good for a camel's cape. I picked the zipper out, cut the extra fabric and sewed the centre back seam without a zipper and it didn't influence the comfort of putting the dress on at all. That's why I recommend not to make it too tight at the waist: you can't omit a zipper then.


Головна невдача спіткала центральний шов спинки. Щойно було вшито "блискавку", сукня отримала хвилястий силует накидки для верблюда. Я випорола "блискавку", зрізала зайву тканину і прострочила шов без неї. І це жодним чином не вплинуло на зручність  вдягання сукні.  Якраз тому я рекомендую не занадто звужувати сукню по талії: тоді не можна буде відмовитися від "блискавки".

To top stitch the front pleat the special presser foot can be used. To tell the true, I used it only once when, after buying the sewing machine, tasted all the pressers they added to it. And from that my experience it was obvious that without a certain skill it wouldn't be too simple. But it is not so hard as well. As for me, the main idea is to fix the presser foot as securely as possible in order the ruler (that hook) not to wobble and the fabric not to glide.


Щоб відстрочити складку по переду, можна скористатися спеціальною лапкою. Чесно сказати, я нею користувалася лише один раз, коли після купівля швейною машинки, пробувала всі лапки, які до неї додавалися. І з того  досвіду було зрозуміло, що це не так вже і просто і потрібна якась навичка. Але так само, це і не так вже і складно. Як на мене, головно якнайміцніше закріпити лапку, щоб лінійка (той гачок) не вилітав і тканина не ковзала.

As the back consists of two parts and was cut right from the angle, it wasn't needed to reinforce it with interfacing. The front must be, the extra interfacing can be cut  later.



Оскільки спинка складається з двох частин і розрізана прямо з кутка, вона не потребувала зміцнення прокладкою. Передня частин - обов'язково. Зайвий прокладний матеріал можна пізніше зрізати.

When sewing a shoulder seam, the cut on the front facing was made.

Shaped CRAW Bracelet

It is worth saying that apart from the projects made by my own designs, this new piece is one of the most intricate patterns I've  made. This new bracelet is beaded in CRAW technique. I have already made a simple CRAW rope and a couple of CRAW bracelets: simple and not simple at all :-)  This time I tried to make a bracelet with 3D effect, it means it is shaped, consists of five double layered motifs. It was interesting indeed to work on it and I'd love to go on developing my skills in this technique.

The bracelet meant to be an accessory to this dress. But since my deep plunging into beading, it is the rare occasion when the dress was ready much earlier than the matching jewellery. At least I am almost on time to the summer dresses season:-)

Об'ємний браслет в техніці  CRAW

Техніка, в якій сплетений цей новий браслет у нас не називається CRAW, але переклад її назви - право-кутне плетіння - якнайкраще відповідає її сутності, тож я її так і називатиму (хоча слова "правокутний" може і немає, то буде :-)).  

Якщо оминути прикраси, виконані за моїм власним дизайном, цей браслет можна назвати однією з найбільш хитромудрих моделей, яку я робила. В цій техніці вже колись був виконаний простий джгут і пара браслетів: простий і зовсім непростий :-) Цього разу я спробувала нанизати об'ємну модель, це означає, що виріб має певну геометричну форму і складається з п'яти двошарових мотивів. Це було справді цікаво і я із задоволенням продовжу практикуватися в цій техніці. Модель браслета за дизайном Gabi Gueck з журналу Beadwork лютий/березень 2013.

Виріб призначався аксесуаром до цієї сукні. Але з часу мого глибокого занурення у виготовлення прикрас, це той рідкісний випадок, коли вбрання було пошито набагато раніше за відповідну прикрасу. Принаймні, я встигла до сезону носіння літніх суконь :-)

The scheme in the magazine is clear so I just followed it. Made five motifs and connected them in a bracelet. But I didn't have 3 mm bicones so added 4 mm and they are bigger than it needed. For the clasp bars I made only one cube of CRAW to shorten the bracelet.

I also broke the pattern when stitching the pearls but only noticed that after finishing the bracelet. So left them as they are.

Схема в журналі зрозуміла, тому я просто все робила за інструкцією. Нанизала 5 мотивів і з'єднала їх в браслет. Тільки у мене не було біконусів 3 мм, тож я додала 4 мм і вони таки завеликі. Для застібки я нанизала лише один кубик CRAW, щоб зробити браслет трохи коротшим.

Також пару раз я збилася зі схеми поки додавала перлини, але помітила це, коли браслет вже був готовий, тож залишила як є.

Simple Top, or Occasional Sewing

On Sunday I had a chance to visit the Museum of Interesting Science in Odesa. The city is not far from mine so there is no much preparation to go there for one day. As long as I sew, any occasion for me is the reason to add something new to the wardrobe. Sometimes I ignore that because not always have enough time for sewing and, actually, have enough clothes for any occasion.  Right because of the latter I yet need some push once in a while to follow my calling :-) But more often I use such opportunities because, fortunately or unfortunately, sewing is my hobby from my childhood and I just can't but do it either I have a reason or not :-)
The photo from the museum shows how we perceive the world when being 2 years old. I must confess to be two years old is not simple but very interesting:-)

Простий топ, або Пошиття з нагоди

У неділю мені випало відвідати Музей Цікавої Науки в Одесі. Це місто розташовано недалеко від мого, тому не треба довго готуватися, щоб туди поїхати на один день. Скільки я шию, будь який випадок є для мене нагодою додати щось нове до гардеробу. Іноді я нехтую такою нагодою через брак часу на пошиття, а іноді через те, що у мене достатньо одягу на будь який випадок. І якраз через останню причину коли-не-коли мене не завадить трохи підштовхувати, щоб я слідувала своєму покликанню:-) Але частіше я використовую такі нагоди тому, що, на щастя чи на жаль, шиття - моє захоплення з дитинства і я просто не можу цим не займатися чи є якась нагода для цього чи ні:-)
Фото з музею демонструє як ми сприймаємо світ, коли нам два роки. Мушу зізнатися бути дворічною дитиною важко, але цікаво:-)

Quick sewing is always rewarding because of using minimum time. This time I used the pattern Simplisity 6194 from Diana Moden 3/4 2014 (Ukrainian edition). The top is sewed with cottom embroideried cambric.
It is the second item I made from the issue. Much earlier I made this dress from it.
The necklace and the earrings are nice accessories for the outfit.Despite I made them last year, it was purposely for this top that was just a plan at that time:-)


Швидке пошиття завжди винагорода, тому що потребує мало часу. Цього разу я використала модель Simplisity 6194 з Diana Moden 3/4 2014 (українське видання). Топ пошито з вишитого бавовняного батисту.
Це друга модель з того випуску. Набагато раніше я пошила з нього цю сукню.
Намисто і сережки - гарне доповнення до вбрання. Я їх хоча і зробила минулого року, але навмисно до цього топу, який тоді ще був лише запланований:-)

As for the sewing itself there is not much to tell because I followed the instruction which is very clear. The only thing I change - the processing of the neck hole because my bias stripe was sewed of few pieces and I didn't want the seams were seen.  So at first I stitched it to the right side of the top and then to the wrong.

Що до самого пошиття, тут розповідати небагато, тому що я все робила за зрозумілою інструкцією. Єдине, у мене коса бійка вийшла з клаптиків, тому, щоб шви не було видно, я її спочатку пристрочила до лицьової сторони, а потім - до зворотньої.
